Foster Anderson (1888 - 1972)

Biography

Jane was born 6 Jan 1888, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Robert M. "Red" Anderson, a close friend of Buffalo Bill Cody, and his wife, Ellen (Luckie) Anderson.

She married famed composer and music critic Deems Taylor 27 Sep 1910 in Bronx, NY. They divorced in 1918. For a time, she was a lover of the novelist Joseph Conrad, who used her as the model for his heroine, Doña Rita, in The Arrow of Gold (1919). In October 1934, she married a Spanish nobleman, Count Eduardo Alvarez de Cienfuegos, in Seville, and settled with him in Spain.

During World War II, she worked as a journalist publishing Nazi propaganda. She broadcast Nazi propaganda via short wave radio for the German State Radio's U.S. Zone.

After the War, she was charged with treason against the United States. However, the charges were eventually dropped due to lack of evidence.

She passed away 5 May 1972, in Madrid, Spain.
