DC Primary Election - June 16, 2026

D.C. voters are casting ballots in a historic primary election that will help shape the city's political future. Major races on the ballot include mayor, D.C. delegate to Congress, at-large councilmember and several ward council seats. With Mayor Muriel Bowser not seeking another term, the mayor's race is drawing significant attention in the DMV, and nationally.

This election marks the first time D.C. is using ranked-choice voting in primary contests with three or more candidates. Voters can rank up to five candidates in order of preference, and winners may not be determined on election night. Election officials have warned that final results in some races could take days — or even longer — as additional rounds of counting are completed and late-arriving mail ballots are processed.
