Summary
- The ROG Xbox Ally X20 features a 7.4-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED screen with 1,400 nit peak brightness.
- The handheld's cool-looking translucent body shows its internals. It also features TMR joysticks, an eight-way transforming D-pad, and rubber grips.
- The Xbox Ally X20 features the same Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme (24GB/1TB) as the Xbox Ally X. It's bundled with XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses. Pricing hasn't been revealed yet, but it'll likely cost in the $2,000 range.
I'm a big fan of the ROG Xbox Ally X. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that, aside from the Switch 2, it's my favorite modern portable. However, I've always found its 7-inch screen slightly too small and its bezels rather large, especially compared to similar Windows 11-powered handhelds.
This is where the new ROG Xbox Ally X20 and its 7.4-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED screen come in. Along with being slightly larger than the ROG Xbox Ally X's screen, the Xbox Ally X20 makes the jump to OLED and features a notably brighter display that maxes out at 1,400 nits, along with support for FreeSync Premium Pro and a variable refresh rate. I'm interested to see how the OLED screen affects the handheld's battery life — hopefully, it doesn't reduce it that much. The handheld is also bundled with a pair of ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses.
At Computex, Asus described the ROG Xbox Ally X20 as a "true collector's item," complete with a translucent black body that showcases its internals, including the handheld's processor and cooling system. Other key upgrades include new, more durable TMR joysticks for extra precision, and a transforming D-Pad with eight-way control, and a microSD Express card slot. The handheld also features improved face buttons that sit flush with the ROG Ally X20's body and rubberized handgrips that aim to make it more comfortable to hold.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 doesn't feature a more powerful chip
This isn't the ROG Xbox Ally X 2
That's where the upgrades end, though. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 still features the same AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 1TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage as the standard Xbox Ally X. The bundled ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses feature a matching black and gold colorway, and offer a 171-inch screen with a 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.01ms response time, thanks to its micro-OLED screen technology.

Asus hasn't announced pricing or launch details yet, but given that the ROG Xbox Ally X costs $1,000 right now, I'd expect the ROG Xbox Ally X20 and XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses bundle to be priced at least in the $2,000 range. It's unclear if Asus plans to sell the Xbox Ally X20 on its own at some point in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if we see many of the limited-edition handheld's features make their way to the ROG Xbox Ally X2 at some point in the future.
