Summary

  • Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are now on Xbox Game Pass, appealing to fans of digital Dungeons & Dragons.

  • More titles like Warhammer 40,000 and Barbie Project Friendship are coming to Xbox Game Pass in June.

Baldur's Gate 3 is an amazing game, and people are still clocking the hours in it almost two years later. If you're a little tired of Baldur's Gate 3 specifically, but you still have a hankering for some more digital Dungeons & Dragons gameplay, then the Xbox Game Pass has just the thing for you. Both Baldur's Gate 1 and 2's Enhanced Editions are now on the Pass, and subscribers have even more titles to look forward to in June.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 make their way onto the Xbox Game Pass

In a press release email, Microsoft breaks down what subscribers to the Xbox Game Pass can expect from the future. Starting today, you can play the remastered editions of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 on the Xbox Cloud Gaming service and on your console. This unlocks for both Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass Standard tiers.

If you do decide to hop in, just remember that these games came out around the turn of the 21st century, so they're based on the 2nd edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (versus Baldur's Gate 3, which uses 5th edition).

It has its quirks, such as a stat called "To Hit Armor Rating of Zero" (THAC0). This is a default "to hit" roll that you need to match or exceed to hit a monster, and the monsters have their own armor rating that modifies this THAC0 roll. People in weak armor have positive armor ratings, which are added to "to hit" rolls and make it easier to score a strike on them; however, heavy armor users will have a negative armor rating, which subtracts from a "to hit" roll and makes it harder to land a hit. All I'm saying is, don't be scared when your paladin has an armor rating of -6.

Other titles on the docket for the future include Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition, Kingdom: Two Crowns, and if all that fighting tires you out, you can cool off with some Barbie Project Friendship. Here's the full rundown and when each title will arrive:
