The best Chromebooks at Best Buy in 2023

Best overall
Acer Chromebook Spin 714

Acer's latest Chromebook

The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is one of Acer's newest Chromebook convertibles. Under the hood, it has Intel's 12th-generation CPU. It also has a speedy SSD, and 8GB RAM. For multitasking, the screen is set at a tall 16:10 aspect ratio. If you're an artist is like taking notes, you also get a garaged stylus to ink on the screen.

Pros & Cons
  • 12th-generation Intel CPUs
  • 16:10 aspect ratio screen
  • Great port selection
  • Garaged stylus
  • A little heavy
  • A little expensive

Typically, if you shop at Best Buy, you'll find the best product by sorting by the highest price. Luckily, if you do this you'll see the Acer Chromebook Spin 714, which just happens to be a great Chromebook.

There's a lot to like here. This Chromebook has the 12th-generation Intel Core i5-1235U CPU, which offers performance and efficiency cores to help with any task. It comes with 8GB of RAM, which is about average on a Chromebook. It'll help support multitasking and even running Android apps. It also uses a proper SSD instead of eMMC or flash storage, so transfer rates will be fast.

Elsewhere, the display comes in the modern 16:10 aspect ratio. This is a taller display, so you can fit more content on the screen. The resolution is set to 1920 x 1200. You’ll be able to enjoy all the content you watch on the screen in any of the various modes, including in tent mode or as a tablet.

As for the keyboard, it’s backlit, so you’ll be able to work in the dark. Not every Chromebook has this feature, and it looks pretty great with even lighting across all keys.

The ports are great on this Chromebook, too. You’ll find one USB-A, two Thunderbolt ports, a headphone jack, and HDMI. The other thing we want to mention is the garaged stylus. You’ll be able to use this to draw on the screen without worrying about attaching the pen to the side of a Chromebook or the top of the screen. When traveling, you can keep it secure.

Best for media consumption
Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2

For those who stream

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is the Chromebook to buy if you plan to be constantly streaming or end up watching movies. The QLED display has incredible color accuracy and is quite vibrant. Other than that, the striking red colorway is also quite unique against the gray and black Chromebooks you usually see.

Pros & Cons
  • Vibrant QLED display
  • Striking red colorway
  • Affordable
  • Older Intel CPUs
  • Limited port selection

When people have downtime, they might end up using a Chromebook to watch movies or stream content. For that, you'll need a really vibrant, color-accurate display, similar to a television screen. Best Buy sells a lot of great TVs, but a Chromebook for sale at the retailer with a screen technology similar to that of a TV is the Galaxy Chromebook 2.

This is actually the first Chromebook with a QLED display, so the most impressive feature here is definitely the screen. Unlike IPS and LCDs, the QLED screen produces over 100% color volume and makes content quite life-like for that reason. It'll be a joy for making your favorite Netflix series look just as the director intended.

The processor options, though, are not quite as high-end, but the Intel Core i3 should do the job for most users. Storage on this device tops out at 128GB, but this is still ultra-fast SSD storage we’re talking about. You also retain 8GB of RAM which is what we look for in a Chromebook.

This is a touchscreen device, and while the S Pen is still supported, it’s not bundled with the laptop. This also means there’s no slot for storing the S Pen in the body of the Chromebook.

Keep in mind, though, that since this Chromebook is all about multimedia, you won't find a lot of ports. There's only USB-C on board on both sides of the device. If you plan to use this at work or school, you'll need to invest in an adapter to connect it to a monitor.

Great ChromeOS tablet
Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5

For those on the go

The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5 includes a keyboard case that has a kickstand making it quite a unique tablet from the competition. It also has a color-accurate OLED screen that brings your content to life. The Arm-based chip inside is also great for running Android apps.

Pros & Cons
  • Includes keyboard
  • Arm-based chip is great for Android apps
  • OLED display brings content to life
  • Optional Stylus
  • Only has USB-C ports

iPads and Android tablets come plenty at Best Buy, but there's also a growing range of new ChromeOS-powered tablets, too. One of those is the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5. This new Chromebook tablet has a lot of great features that we look for in the best Chromebooks, from an amazing display to a detachable keyboard, as well as long battery life.

Firstly, Lenovo put the second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c processor inside this tablet. We put this tablet through our tests and actually found it quite pleasing to use during our review period for gaming, web browsing, and using Android apps. Even battery life was great, lasting through the entire day.

Note that typically, a Chromebook tablet has a flimsy and cheap keyboard that's an optional purchase. But the Duet 5 comes with a keyboard. Just attach it to the display, pull out the stand from the back, and get to work.

If you want to use the touchscreen with a stylus, you will have to buy a USI stylus separately. Once you do, you'll be able to draw on web pages and use drawing apps from the Google Play Store. Oh, and we do also want to note that the Duet 5 comes with a 16:9 OLED panel. In our tests, the display had excellent brightness and great viewing angles, and accurate color reproduction.

There's one small flaw, though. There is no headphone jack on board this device, and it just has two USB-C ports. You’ll need to invest in a dongle for connecting to displays, and USB drives.

Best mid-range Chromebook
Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 4+

A great everyday option

$270 $299 Save $29

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 4+ is a great everyday Chromebook. It packs in a 15.6-inch FHD display which is great for multitasking. It also has a great plastic design with slim bezels along the screen. For web browsing, the CPU powering it is also decent enough.

Pros & Cons
  • FHD resolution and 15.6-inch screen
  • Sleek design
  • Good port selection
  • Keyboard lacks backlighting
  • CPU is a bit slow

A mid-range Chromebook falls between high-end and low-end but is still decently priced. You'll find a lot of these at Best Buy, but the one that we've chosen specifically is the Samsung Chromebook 4+ because it finds a great balance between its specs and design.

Powering this device is the Intel Celeron N4000 processor. This is a much lower-end processor, but paired with 4GB of RAM, you can get through web browsing just fine. ChromeOS is heavily optimized for lower-end hardware like this, anyway.

With the display comes something that's rare on a $300 Chromebook: a 1920 x 1080 resolution 15.6-inch panel. This means there's plenty of room for multitasking and using different apps side by side. Samsung even slimmed the side bezels of the display down a bit. This makes it seem like a more premium device, but there’s still an ugly chin under the display.

Going to the keyboard and trackpad, there's some nice key travel since this is an island-style chiclet keyboard and there is the added bonus of it being spillproof. Unfortunately, though, there is no backlighting. You'll have to stick to using this in the daytime or work under lights at night.

And what about portability? Well, your typical 15-inch Chromebook might be quite heavy, but this one hits a sweet spot since it is made of all plastic. The weight comes in at 3.75 pounds, which is below the typical 4-pound mark that we consider too heavy. On ports, Samsung includes two USB-C ports for charging on the Chromebook 4+. This is in addition to a headphone jack and a single USB-A port.

Best 17-inch Chromebook
Acer Chromebook 317

With a big screen

The Acer Chromebook 317 is one of the best Chromebooks you can get with a 17-inch screen. It has an FHD display which is great for opening windows side by side. It also has a number pad on the keyboard for use in spreadsheets. And, that keyboard is backlit.

Pros & Cons
  • 17-inch screen
  • Comes with numpad
  • Keyboard is backlit
  • A bit heavy at 4.85 pounds
  • Slower Intel Pentium CPUs

The biggest Chromebook you can find at Best Buy is the 17-inch Acer Chromebook 317. It's powered by a lower-end Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor, but it's more powerful than the Celeron CPUs of the typical budget Chromebook. This is also a quad-core chip, which means that there's more power for multitasking.

One of the reasons to get a 17-inch laptop is a large keyboard, and you'll get one here — it even has a numpad and is backlit. It's rare to see a Chromebook with a full-size backlit keyboard like this one, and it'll be great for filling out spreadsheets or doing calculations.

Another reason is a giant display. As we often look for in a Chromebook, this option has a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution display. At 17.3 inches, you'll have plenty fo space for your apps, almost as if you're at home on an external monitor. There's even touch support, which helps make managing those windows much easier.

Just keep in mind that 17-inch Chromebooks will be heavy. Most cross the 5-pound mark, but this one is just under at 4.85 pounds. It also comes in at about 0.89 inches thick, so it might not be the most portable, but there are thicker options out there.

Last up as to why we choose this Chromebook are the ports. There's no HDMI port for hooking up to a monitor, so dongles will be needed. However, there's still USB Type-C, USB-A, microSD, and a headphone jack. All of these USB ports should be speedy enough for data transfers.

Best Chromebook for gaming
Acer Chromebook 516 GE

For traditional gamers

The Acer Chromebook 516 GE is a fantastic Chromebook for cloud gaming and beyond. It has 12th-generation Intel CPUs under the hood, which makes it speedy fast for running Steam. It also has a great RGB keyboard and a buttery smooth 120Hz screen.

Pros & Cons
  • Big 16-inch 120Hz screen
  • RGB keyboard
  • 12th-generation Intel CPUs
  • Can be quite heavy
  • No touchscreen

Are you a gamer looking for a Chromebook at Best Buy? One of the best you'll come across is the Acer Chromebook 516 GE. This is one of Acer's newest Chromebooks, and it has a great CPU, design, keyboard, and display. Our Acer Chromebook 516 GE review has more details on why we loved it so much, but the main reason you should think about this device is the CPU.

You'll get a 12th-generation Intel CPU under the hood, which means you can use this Chromebook to install Steam (in beta) and enjoy local offline gaming. Of course, cloud gaming works well with the 16:10 aspect ratio and 120Hz screen. Just keep in mind that there's no touch support, so Android gaming might be problematic.

In typical gamer fashion, this Chromebook also has a responsive RGB keyboard. And all around, the Chromebook feels super premium. It has a brushed finish on the lid and an aluminum bottom. And, on the keyboard deck, there are speaker grills. Even port selection is top-notch to avoid dongles since along with USB-C, you get HDMI, USB-A, Ethernet (for lower latency when cloud gaming), and even a headphone jack.

Best convertible for cloud gaming
Asus Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip

For the gamers

The Asus Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip is one of the newer cloud gaming Chromebooks you can buy. What sets it apart from others is the fact that it has a superfast 144Hz screen and is also a convertible without an RGB keyboard, helping it pass as a great Chromebook for work, too.

Pros & Cons
  • 144Hz screen
  • Lots of ports
  • Sleek looking design
  • No RGB lighting on keyboard
  • 11th generation Intel CPUs

We've ended our guide with the newest Chromebook convertible from Asus, the Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip. This is yet another gaming Chromebook, but instead of being a traditional clamshell, it's a convertible with a touchscreen for playing Android games.

You'll also get one of the highest refresh rates we've seen on a Chromebook. While other cloud gaming Chromebooks come in at 120Hz, this one has a 144Hz refresh rate. That means everything you do on the display will be fast and accurate, whether you're gaming or not.

Powering your games are 11th-generation Intel Core i5 CPUs, which are a bit old at this point, although you can push the RAM up to 16GB. With this, you'll be able to cloud game and even connect it to a monitor for regular work.

The design is also tailored toward gamers. The inside is all black, with orange accents around the W, A, S, and D keys. Even the buttons on the side have a contrasting orange color, which helps with hitting the right buttons while gaming. The keyboard even supports anti-ghosting technology, so as you speed your way through typing or gaming, every keystroke will be super accurate. And yes, it is backlit, although it lacks RGB lighting.

To end, we have a few notes on the connectivity as well as the ports on the Asus Chromebook Vibe CX55. This Chromebook has Wi-Fi 6E, so it supports the fastest possible connections. Other than that, it's a well-connected system. You'll get microSD card expansion, HDMI, USB-C, and USB-A.

These are all the best Chromebooks you can buy at Best Buy today. Out of all the picks, we highly suggest considering the Acer Chromebook Spin 714. It's in a lot of our other guides, and for good reason. The display is great, as are the 12th-generation Intel CPUs. That integrated stylus is also a huge plus, helping you ink and draw on the screen without worrying about losing your stylus.
