The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most highly regarded games created in the 21st century. It is because of this that Bethesda has been able to re-release the game so many times on different consoles. I loved the game when I was a kid, but like many, I played it to death. In my first playthrough, I must have put over 300 hours into the game. I was obsessed with finding all of its secrets. Since then, I haven't been able to play the game normally. Luckily, I have found some amazing mods that make The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim worth playing all over again.

5 SkyTactics - Dynamic Combat Styles

Overhaul the game's combat

One thing that gets old to me in Skyrim is the combat. If you have put a lot of hours into the game, you probably know what I am talking about. It often ends up feeling stale, like you can hack and slash your way through anything and nothing matters. Well, that is partially true, as the combat in Skyrim is actually very basic when you look at it. That is why you need SkyTactics.

The goal of SkyTactics is to overhaul the game's combat and make it more dynamic. It adds dynamic combat styles to NPCs. What makes the mod even better is that each combat style is distributed randomly, so you won't know how the NPCs will fight. There are over 80 dynamic combat styles that get added via this mod. Be warned, you will also need SkyPatcher to implement this mod properly.

Many of the best RPGs boast features that offer a deep degree of customization, but there are some mechanics that really should appear more frequently

4 Combat Gameplay Overhaul SE

It's time to enhance the player

Let's get further into the game's combat. Admit it, you get tired of wildly swinging your weapon around like I do. I've always wanted Skyrim to feel more intuitive. I've always wanted it to have depth that made me feel like I could use weapons other than a bow.

The Combat Gameplay Overhaul SE mod reworks the game's combat system on the player's side instead of the NPC side. Some of the biggest features of this mod are responsive dodge rolls, procedural leaning, grip changing, mod-air combat striking, dual-wielding, and special 1st and 3rd-person weapon animations. After you install this mod, the combat will never feel the same again. You might also want to start playing in 3rd-person mode as the dodge roll can be a bit dizzying.

3 Skyrim Together Reborn

Play the game co-op

One of the things that bothers me the most about the Elder Scrolls series is that none of the games have co-op. As someone who enjoys playing with their friends, it puts a damper on things when I want to explore a world and I can't bring a friend along for the adventure. This is changed with the Skyrim Together Reborn mod.

Skyrim Together Reborn allows you and a friend to play through the entirety of the game via co-op gameplay. It also allows you to play online with strangers, if you are in the mood to play with randoms. The mod was created as a passion project by fans of the game who volunteered to figure out the mechanics behind turning this traditionally single-player title into a co-op game. They have said the goal is "to create a co-op-like experience for about two to eight players."

2 Wyrmstooth

A brand new story

After a while, exploring the land of Skyrim gets a bit old. After all, you can only go to Whiterun so many times and see the same guards before you go mad. That is part of the reason I haven't been able to replay the game. I know what will happen and where everything is. Knowing all of this takes the fun out of it and makes the game not worth playing. This can be remedied.

The Wyrmstooth mod for Skyrim adds a brand-new land to the game for you to explore. The expansion allows you to travel to the island of Wyrmstooth in pursuit of a dragon that's interrupting trade routes with Skyrim. Downloading the mod gives you access to the island, a new castle home, new weapons, shields, spells, and more, as well as NPCs that are all fully voice-acted.

1 Alternate Start - Live Another Life

You don't have to be the Dragonborn

Source: Arthmoor on Nexus Mods

As I pointed out above, knowing the story and locations of Skyrim is a real downer. In a massive game like this, I like to explore with a fresh take, knowing that there will be something different about it. I don't want to go about the same old story in the same old way. I want to experience it in a new way. Perhaps with a different starting point, that makes it so I'm not the Dragonborn. Maybe I want to be a normal guy who gets mixed up with the wrong people.

Live Another Life is a mod that allows you to restart Skyrim without needing to go through the lengthy intro. Instead, you are spawned into a dungeon and need to make your way through it to safety. Instead of being the Dragonborn, you get to choose a new life for your character to lead. Whatever you choose has a lasting impact on the game, so you might want to choose carefully.

Forget about The Elder Scrolls VI, I used mods to bring AI-powered NPCs to Skyrim

Despite sounding rather gimmicky, this project brings endless replayability to Skyrim

Skyrim can be fun again

Skyrim used to be one of my favorite games. When I was younger, I played through it to the point where I was sick of it, which took a long time. Since then, I have been trying to find ways to bring back that spark. I have been trying to find ways to make the game enjoyable again and experience everything like I did when it was first released. This led me down the rabbit hole that is modding. Since then, I have been modding Skyrim like crazy to make it a game worth replaying. The mods on this list are just part of the reason why I can replay Skyrim and still have a good time with it.
