  • Websites like AmbientCG, Free PBR, Poly Haven, Poliigon, and CG Bookcase offer free or premium 3D textures for Blender.

Blender is an open-source 3D design and motion tool. There are tons of great add-ons available for Blenderto increase how you can use the software. You can also use Blender to design 3D models for 3D printing, but the 3D textures work best for digital 3D design. They can be used for texture on static models, including visualizations of interior or exterior engineering plans, or you can use them within 3D animation in Blender.

5 AmbientCG

Public domain 3D textures and materials

While many of the textures, materials, HDRIs, and models from AmbientCG are built with or for Substance 3D — an Adobe alternative to Blender for 3D design— many of them can equally be used for Blender, too.

All assets downloadable from AmbientCG are free to download and use under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal License, and while they don’t require credit or payment, there are options for both when you use the assets if you desire.

There are over 2000 total assets available from AmbientCG, with over 1900 of them being materials and textures for a variety of 3D uses.

4 Free PBR

3D texture assets for free

This library has over 500 3D assets available for multiple 3D design platforms, including Blender. This one-man show is a project by a man named Brian. Although Free PBR offers free textures and assets, the site does have a small premium option for commercial use, if desired, for $16.

Brian also has a request box on the website if you have any specific desires for 3D textures you’d like to see (no guarantee he’ll create them, though).

3 Poly Haven

Commercial and redistribution licenses for 3D textures

Poly Haven is a public 3D asset library that includes many 3D textures, especially for use in Blender. Poly Haven also offers HDRIs (High Dynamic Range Image) and 3D models within its public libraries.

There are over 550 3D textures available, and they’re held in ten categories for easy navigation.

The license for Poly Haven allows you to download all assets for free, including commercial use and redistribution, including selling, with no restrictions. It’s funded via Patreon and a few select supporters.

2 Poliigon

Free and premium 3D textures

Poliigon offers free and premium PBR — Physically Based Rendering — textures. They’re available for several 3D editing tools, including Blender. Poliigon’s texture assets can be used for various purposes within your 3D design, such as VFX, game design, animation, and product visualization.

The Poliigon asset library contains thousands of options with a variety of prices. You can categorize them by price, recently added, and type of texture, including both internal and external texture types.

1 CG Bookcase

Free 3D textures

CG Bookcase is a project by Dorian Zgraggen which he completes in his spare time as he’s determined to help make 3D rendering accessible to more people, including beginner 3D designers. The project is supported by Patreon backing.

There are over 500 free textures, including manhole covers, brickwork, and fabrics. Zgraggen also offers a free tool to help Blender users make textures seamless upon application. The link to that can be found at the bottom of the CG Bookcase website.

CG Bookcase offers textures in many resolutions, including 4K and 8K, for incredible quality 3D rendering. You can search by category — with over 20 categories — or by color or resolution.
