Most student dashboards you see online are either too complicated to set up or too simple to be truly useful. That’s why I decided to build my own. After months of trial and error, I have created a single, comprehensive student dashboard in Notion that consolidates everything. This isn’t just a to-do list; it’s an all-in-one academic command center designed to help you stay organized, manage your workload, and actually enjoy being a student.

I’m going to walk you through how it works, and best of all, I'll give you the free template so you can stop building and start studying.

Notion Student Dashboard

Setting up the obvious

Let’s go over the basics first

Let’s start with the obvious steps. I will create a new Notion page from scratch and fill it with a quote and other relevant details.

You can head to your Notion workspace, select the '+' icon on the sidebar, and give it a required title, a matching icon, and a wallpaper. For motivational purposes, I have even added a quote right below the title and gave it a calming green shade.

As always, when you download this template to your workspace, you can customize it to your preferences.

Decorating the Notion page with widgets

Adds an aesthetic touch to your Notion page

A great way to personalize your Notion page and make it more functional is by adding widgets. They can transform a simple page into a dynamic, at-a-glance hub for your life.

I have found a few key widgets that make a huge difference, especially for students. I always start with a monthly calendar view and a time widget right at the top. This gives me an immediate sense of what day it is and what’s coming up this month, so I never miss an important day.

You can head to a marketplace like Indify, view widgets, customize them to your liking, and embed them in a Notion page. I wanted to keep this dashboard simple (and fast to load), so I added only a couple of widgets.

You can add a life progress bar, a quote of the day, and other useful widgets as well.

Adding databases for different school projects

A crucial part of the Notion dashboard

One of the core features that makes this dashboard so powerful is how I have set up the databases. Instead of having a long, messy to-do list, I created two databases: one for all my assignments and another for my courses.

This allows me to keep everything organized and see the big picture of my workload. My assignment database is the heart of my academic workflow. I have all the essential information I need to stay on top of every task.

I have added columns such as assignment title, status, due date, submission time, priority, grade, and course. In another course database, I have populated it with columns such as course name, instructor, assignments, and portal link.

This setup is what works best for me. But Notion is incredibly flexible. You can tweak these columns as per your needs. For example, you can add a ‘Study time’ column to track how long you spent on each assignment or change the priority labels to a different system.

You can also create different views for your database, like a calendar view for due dates or a Gallery view to see all your assignments as cards.

Tracking daily to-dos

With quick links to other important pages

I like to keep the bottom of my dashboard clean and organized, so I have ended the page with a couple of useful columns. First of all, I have a small column called 'Today's To-Do List.'

I keep this intentionally simple because the goal is to quickly jot down tasks that I need to do right now, rather than getting lost in a complex system. Every morning, I add a few tasks that I want to accomplish that day. It’s a quick, focused list.

There is another side-by-side column called Navigation. This is my hub for all the other important pages that are related to my school life. This is where I keep links to my subscription tracker, finance planner, books tracker, and wellness journal.

It keeps my entire workspace connected and prevents me from having to dig through my sidebar to find what I need.

Your academic command center

There you have it — a complete system for managing your academic life, all within a single Notion dashboard. While this template is a robust system right out of the box, it also serves as a starting point for further customization. Notion’s true power lies in its flexibility. I encourage you to take this dashboard and make it your own.

Customize the colors, add widgets, insert new databases, and tweak the system to fit your unique needs and study habits. The best dashboard is the one that works for you, so don’t be afraid to get creative. Meanwhile, check out my dedicated post if you are looking for more Notion templates for your setup.
