Which RTS game did you grow up on? For me, it was Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2. That probably dates me pretty accurately, but I adored the game's take on the Cold War and all the wild stuff that came out of it. Yes, including those amazing live-action cutscenes with people in costumes, which EA doubled-down on in Red Alert 3 when they got Tim Curry to read the best line he has ever read in his career.
If you want to revisit those wonderful memories, I have the perfect excuse. EA has revealed that it's releasing the complete source code for some of its iconic Command and Conquer games, and they'll even come with Steam Workshop integration for easy modding.

EA releases the source code for Command and Conquer games
As posted on the EA website, the announcement introduces Luke "CCHyper" Feenan, a diehard fan who EA took onboard to help it revitalize its IP. Well, Luke did a lot more than that:
I’m proud to announce that we are releasing the fully recovered source code for Command & Conquer (aka, Tiberian Dawn) and C&C Red Alert under the GPL license! I know this will empower those in the community who continue to create content for these classic entries in the franchise, and I hope it will aid communities like CnCNet to continue to support these games and keep them playable for future generations to come. But, let's not stop there!
Luke goes on to confirm that C&C Renegade, C&C Generals, and its expansion pack, Zero Hour, all have their source codes released. This is huge for the community; not only does this allow people to preserve these amazing games, but it allows people to mod them as much as they like. The sky's the limit when you have access to the actual code the game used.
If you want to get started, head over to the EA GitHub account and grab the code.
Compatible Command and Conquer titles are also getting Steam Workshop support
If you're no good at modding, don't worry. EA is also allowing the following titles on Steam to access the Workshop, which will allow you to browse and easily download mods made by the community:
C&C Renegade
C&C Generals & Zero Hour
C&C 3 Tiberium Wars and Kane’s Wrath
C&C Red Alert 3 & Uprising
C&C 4 Tiberian Twilight
This will also include additional options to the C&C Mission Editor and World Builder tools that will include a button to upload your creations directly to the Steam Workshop, which is an amazing feat for such an hold game.
