Several months after it was announced, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally arriving on Mac this week. Developer CD Project Red revealed that the Mac version will release on June 17 on the Mac App Store, but if you already own the game on Steam, GOG, or the Epic Games Store, you'll also be able to download the Mac version. Like most big game releases on Mac, Cyberpunk 2077 is supported on all M-series Macs, from the M1 family up to the M4, and across both laptops and desktops. There's one configuration where you can't play the game, though — Macs stuck on 8GB of memory.

Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on Mac, but 8GB models won't work

It works on every Mac, but not every Mac

You can play Cyberpunk 2077 on any M-series Mac, including devices with the original M1 and powerhouses like the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra. However, you'll need a device with at least 16GB of unified memory. The MacBook Air M1 and M2 both start with 8GB of memory, as does the MacBook Pro 14 up to the base M3. On the desktop side, both the iMac M1 and M3 start with 8GB of memory, along with the Mac Mini M1 and M2. Apple thankfully raised the minimum amount of unified memory across its Mac lineup with the introduction of the M4, but several models are still being left behind simply due to a lack of memory.

Although some Mac users won't be able to play the game, it sounds like an impressive port for those who can. Rather than graphics presets, the game will include a "For this Mac" setting, which provides settings based on the model of Apple Silicon you're using. At launch, the game supports Apple's MetalFX upscaling along with FSR 3 upscaling and frame generation. The game also supports spaital audio, though only with AirPods, and comes with HDR, controller, Magic Mouse, and trackpad support, along with cross-progression.

It looks fine out of the gate, but CD Projekt Red says Cyberpunk 2077 will get a major overhaul on Mac later this year. The developer says it will add features from Metal 4 to the game, including frame generation and denoising. Apple announced these features at WWDC, but they've yet to show up in a shipping game. Metal 4 is a major overhaul to Apple's graphics API, and it lays the foundation for features like real-time path tracing, which is coming to the Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 with the Metal 4 update.

Unfortunately, that will further narrow the window of support. Although CD Projekt Red hasn't said what configurations will be officially supported, Apple didn't start including dedicated ray tracing hardware in its M-series chips until the M3 family.
