Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has set the gaming world on fire, and there may be more to come. In early May, the game's lead writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, responded to one of her followers asking her about possible downloadable content for the hit RPG. It should be noted that Svedberg-Yen didn't confirm DLC for Expedition 33. She did, however, offer a generally positive outlook on the matter, with a response that some kind of additional content could be added to the game in the foreseeable future.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a massive hit

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's review embargo has been lifted and the new RPG appears to garnered a lot of conversations.

Expedition 33 DLC could be on the way

Jennifer Svedberg-Yen was directly messaged on Instagram after Expedition 33's success, with the lead writer responding to a fan's inquiry. The screenshots shared on NeoGaf by user Draugoth show several exchanges between the writer and an array of fans.

The fan's comments were kind, praising Svedberg-Yen for her tear-inducing emotional beats in the game and congratulating her and the folks at Sandfall Interactive on a tremendous title. One message wondered whether or not the team had previously planned on adding more content to the title and if there was any desire to explore the expeditions that came before team 33. Jennifer Svedberg-Yen didn't avoid the question and answered it head-on.

โ€œNothing concrete that I can say at the moment, weโ€™re honestly still just trying to process everything thatโ€™s happening. Itโ€™s been a lot to take in! Weโ€™ve always said if there is strong desire from the players that we would love to do something more, and based on the response so far, Iโ€™d say chances are good.โ€

Since its release, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has been racking up downloads and sales. According to Alinea Analytics, Expedition 33 is currently outselling every comparable JRPG-style game in each of their respective first weeks on Steam. For example, the outlet reported that Expedition 33 is outpacing games such as Metaphor Re:Fantazio (346.6K) and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (334.4K) by selling more than 785K units in the first week.

An expert talking to GamesIndustry.biz declared Expedition 33 a "certified hit" off of these metrics alone. Rhys Elliott, the expert in question, even brought up Sandfall Interactive's choice to announce how many copies the game has sold as opposed to how many new players the game amassed to reflect the gravity of such a milestone for an AA game and the turn-based RPG genre at large.

"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a certified hit, officially selling more than one million copies," Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, said.

"The announcement didn't say players reached โ€“ it said copies sold. That was a choice, and I applaud the transparency."

If you're new to the party, let us introduce you to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Expedition 33 is a turn-based role-playing game influenced by the greatness of Persona, Sekiro, and Final Fantasy to create an entirely original experience. Combining these beautifully crafted elements led to favorable early impressions a day before its official release. Metacritic gave the game a 92โ€”the highest score for a video game this year, toppling The Blue Prince. Additionally, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's lowest score at this time is a 9/10, with some netizens even declaring the title as a "game of the year early contender."

Sandfall Interactive previously caught wind of the kind words and responded on social media, saying, "Today, for the first time, we read the words of people who finally held our dream in their hands, in its entirety. This has been beyond our wildest imagination. Thank you all, truly. Our game was crafted by a small, passionate group of RPG fans. Writers. Artists. Musicians. It was made with loveโ€”and tomorrow, we finally get to share it with all of you. We have laid the path. Tomorrow Comes."
