The Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed, and it showed off what appeared to be mouse functionality. In the first-look trailer, the new Joy-Con controllers can be seen sliding around a surface in a new type of dock. This, combined with what appear to be optical sensors, indicates that many PC players could be in for a world of hurt in certain online games. This supposed mouse functionality will also be a lifesaver in other titles. These types of games will end up benefiting the most from the Nintendo Switch 2 having mouse functionality.

4 Life sim games

The Sims, Animal Crossing, and more

There are a lot of life sim games out there that have become even more popular over the years. The original life sim, simply titled The Sims, is still one of the most popular. Other titles in this category include Animal Crossing, Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Stardew Valley. One thing that many of these titles have in common is that decorating can be a bit of a pain on a console. For instance, The Sims has a bunch of furniture that can be placed, and using a control stick for it just doesn't cut it when it comes to accuracy.

What is more accurate than a joystick? A mouse. This new functionality for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a lifesaver for those who love to spend all day decorating their Sims' home or adding additions to their valley in Disney Dreamlight. It will make a world of difference and allow items to be placed much more accurately.

3 Shooters

Mouse-like accuracy

Many gamers who prefer to spend their time shooting opponents on the battlefield prefer to play first-person and third-person shooter titles on PC. The reason for this is that you can be more accurate with a mouse than you can using a joystick. Many have stated that using a mouse and keyboard allows them to aim faster and more accurately. The higher level of accuracy from these gamers has even become an issue for console players over the years, thanks to the addition of crossplay. Those using a controller to play against PC players often feel disadvantaged.

If the Nintendo Switch 2 does have mouse functionality, it will give FPS players a leg up on the competition, giving them the ability to aim more effectively and potentially have a higher K/D because of it. Of course, this is also dependent on whether or not the Nintendo Switch 2 also has keyboard support.

2 Strategy games

All those little pieces

There are many strategy games that players enjoy, such as Cities Skylines, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Civilization, and more. One thing that many of these games have in common is the ability to select multiple troop types at once and command them with the click of a mouse key. Unfortunately for console users, this is much easier said than done. Many strategy games like this either don't get ported over to console or have their gameplay drastically changed to compensate for using a controller.

Being able to use the Joy-Con controller as a mouse will give Nintendo a leg up on the competition when it comes to strategy games. Being able to use a mouse will allow developers to port over strategy games without needing to change the controls. If changes are required, they will most likely be minimal compared to the amount required for other consoles.

1 Puzzle games

One last type of game that benefits from the use of a mouse is puzzle games. These often require players to select specific items and place them in specific locations. Depending on the title, this can become very tedious, especially when dealing with smaller objects. This is where a mouse comes in handy. When dealing with smaller objects and needing to accurately place them in specific locations, a controller just doesn't cut it. Using a mouse when playing these games on the Switch 2 will make a world of difference for players and allow Nintendo to access even more games.

Better than only using a controller

If Nintendo is known for anything, it is innovation. The company implemented motion controls on previous consoles and perfected them for the Nintendo Switch. Now, it appears the company aims to create a new type of mouse. This simple change will make a massive difference to many different types of games. For strategy titles, it will allow players to click and drag, selecting multiple units at once. For puzzle and life sim games, it will make handling smaller objects and placing them accurately a breeze. For shooters, it will give players an advantage, allowing them to aim faster and shoot more accurately. It will also help when browsing the internet if the Switch 2 has a web browser. Now, we just need to hope that Nintendo allows for keyboard compatibility.
