Summary

  • Android 16 QPR3 Beta 3 delivers a new PowerVR GPU driver for the Tensor G5 on Pixel 10 series phones.
  • The driver version jumps from "v1.602.400" to "v1.634.2906," matching Imagination Technologies' August 2025 release.
  • Expect better GPU performance and slightly improved battery in resource-heavy games.

Despite being an all-around solid smartphone line, one of the key technical issues Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro owners have complained about since the phone's launch earlier this year is the Tensor G5 chip's lackluster GPU performance. Back in October, Google promised to fix the Pixel 10's GPU issues, and it looks like that update has finally arrived in beta.

With the release of Android 16 QPR2 Google fixed this problem to some extent, but with Android 16 QPR3 Beta 1, Google has finally released a new driver for the Tensor G5's PowerVR GPU. This is the same PowerVR GPU driver that Imagine Technologies released in August 2025, bumping the Pixel 10 series GPU driver from version "1.602.400" to "1.634.2906," alongside adding support for Vulkan 1.4 and OpenCL extensions, according to Android Authority.

As is often the case, this update will get a public release, but unfortunately for most Android users, you'll likely need to wait until March 2026 before it drops.

This update makes the already solid Pixel 10 even better

It's likely this fix will also marginally improve battery life, too

Despite being a great refresh and arguably one of the best phone lines released this past year, the Pixel 10's older GPU driver resulted in several more resource-intensive games, like Genshin Impact for example, not running great, resulting in frame rate drops, the battery dying quickly, and the phone getting very hot. This driver update should fix this problem while also improving battery life when playing graphics-heavy titles.

It's unclear if this update actually fixes the Pixel 10 line's GPU issues and I haven't tried it for myself yet. However, it likely won't be long before all-important benchmark tests start to appear online.
