Rockstar is one of the only companies that can truly set the entire internet on fire with a single update about Grand Theft Auto VI. They did it when they dropped the first GTA VI trailer back in December 2023, then again when they delayed the game’s launch from the fall of this year to May 26, 2026, and they’re doing it again, just a week later.

Rockstar just casually dropped a second look at the much-anticipated game on a random Tuesday by finally releasing the second official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI.

GTA 6's release is causing publishers to shift plans, with some hoping it sets a new pricing standard.

GTA VI's second trailer reveals new details about the plot, characters, and map

Rockstar Games posted the second official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI on their X (formerly Twitter) account, as well as on their YouTube account and the game’s new website, with no prior warning.

At the time of writing, the video has already crossed 1.8M likes, and has over 220k comments, which just goes to show how excited fans are, despite Rockstart toying with their feelings.

The trailer is almost three minutes long, and its description reveals a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style plot:

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

The trailer seems to indicate that GTA VI's plot will heavily focus on the romantic relationship between the two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Both criminals end up on the run from the police, which is very GTA-esque and completely on-brand for the series.

While GTA VI is set in the iconic Vice City, the trailer confirms that the game will feature five main map locations: Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. The trailer also highlights six other characters that will be featured in GTA VI alongside Jason and Lucia: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista, and Brian Heder.

The developers of Grand Theft Auto VI refer to the game as "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet," and it’s truly exciting to get a deeper look into what they’re cooking (instead of rewatching the same old trailer over and over again).

Unfortunately, the second trailer focuses more on story and visuals. However, this isn’t all that surprising, since the company followed a similar marketing style for GTA V's rollout. The initial trailer tends to tease the setting and location, the one that follows focuses on the story and characters, and the company usually starts teasing gameplay when the launch is closer, typically four to six months before release.
