Windows 11 is one of the most common operating systems used by modern PCs and laptops. While the operating system is great, the default apps on Windows aren't always the best. This is usually the first thing that users change on their OS. When you use Windows you get a slew of free applications, like Microsoft Edge, the Mail app, and even apps like Paint and even a free video editor, Clipchamp. While most of these apps are easy to uninstall or change from the default, there are more intrusive apps like Dropbox and Teams which require some deeper settings changes.

There are two versions of the Teams application that could be on your PC: a personal application and a work or school application. We are going to show you how you can uninstall them in a few easy steps.

How to remove Microsoft Teams on Windows 11

We're starting first with the process of removing the Microsoft Teams app, which is the app that's pre-installed on your Windows 11 PC and pinned to the Taskbar. You'll first have to uninstall it from the Windows 11 settings app, then disable the icon in the Taskbar.

  1. Open the Windows Settings app by pressing Windows Key + I on your keyboard.
  2. Choose Apps in the sidebar.
  3. Choose Installed apps.
  4. In the search bar at the top, type in Teams.
  5. Click on the Microsoft Teams (personal) icon. The installed app is usually 250-300 MB in size. Click on the three dots next to the app.
  6. Click on Uninstall. A pop-up will appear, and you'll need to press Uninstall again.

If you are also logged on to a Microsoft Teams work or school account, then you will have a second Teams application in the installed apps menu. So if you haven't already, follow steps 1-4 in the previous section and then proceed to the next 2 steps.

  1. To start, follow steps 1-4 in the previous section. On the Installed Apps menu look for the Teams (work or school) application, usually 120-150MB, and click on the three dots on the right.
  2. Then select Uninstall. A popup will appear, and you'll have to click Uninstall again.

How to remove Microsoft Teams Chat from the taskbar

  1. If you still have a Teams icon on your taskbar or system tray, you must turn off Chats. To do this, right-click on the Taskbar and navigate to your Taskbar settings.
  2. Turn the icon for Chat to off.

That's it! Your PC is now free of Microsoft Teams chat. You will have gained back some space on your Windows install and no longer have the Chat icon on your Taskbar. Sometimes, this app might reinstall itself after a featured Windows 11 update like the Moment 3 Update, but you can also go back and disable it.
