Viewing saved Wi-Fi passwords is one of the essential features that helps users share their networks with others. While it took Apple over a decade to implement the offering on its flagship iPhones and iPads, it's finally available for users running OS version 16 and later. So whether you're on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, or their 2022 predecessors, you will be able to check the list of passwords for Wi-Fi networks you've connected to. All you have to do is follow the steps below.
How to view saved Wi-Fi passwords on iOS and iPadOS
The process is similar on both iOS and iPadOS. So whether you have an iPhone, iPad, or both, the steps below remain unchanged.
- Ensure your iDevice is running at least iOS 16 or iPadOS 16.
- Launch the Settings app.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Hit Edit in the top-right corner.
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your iDevice's password, depending on the device you own.
- A list of all saved networks will appear. There you can click on the (i) icon next to a network's name to view its password or forget it.
- Keep in mind that if you have iCloud Keychain sync enabled, then deleting a Wi-Fi password from one Apple device will delete it on all of your iCloud-enabled devices. You would need to re-enter the password to join the particular network again.
Being able to reveal saved Wi-Fi passwords on iOS and iPadOS is a relatively minor feature. Nonetheless, it's a very welcome addition to the operating systems that makes sharing passwords with other users easier. People no longer need to rely on a Mac to reveal a password they can't seem to remember.
Do note that you can share a Wi-Fi password with one of your contacts by bringing your iDevice close to theirs, as long as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled on both iDevices. This spares you the need to reveal your Wi-Fi password manually and them having to type it in the respective field.
