Marvel fans are going to have to prepare themselves for a big year in 2026. Not only are there going to be a few massive movie releases for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but for Marvel games as well. Multiple projects featuring Marvel Comics heroes are in development, with a few planned for release sometime in 2026. My anticipation for them is staggeringly high.
Whether you're playing games on the PlayStation 5 or any other platform, there's going to be Marvel video games to play. And while none of them are truly related to the big movies hitting theaters, they're going to make a big splash for me and many other Marvel fans throughout the year. Here's why I'm hyped for these 3 Marvel games coming out later this year.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion review: A love letter to the best era of Marvel Comics
Marvel Cosmic Invasion will bring you back to the golden days of Marvel with its action-packed brawling and nostalgic vibes
Marvel's Wolverine
Better get ready bub
Everyone that owns a PlayStation 5 and plays Marvel Comics-related video games is excited about what Insomniac Games has coming up next. Their previous two Spider-Man games were major hits for PlayStation owners, and Marvel's Wolverine is looking to be no exception. As one of the most popular X-Men characters in the Marvel Universe, Wolverine is the best at what he does, and what he does isn't very pretty. But that doesn't mean everyone dislikes seeing him do it.
Marvel's Wolverine is going to be an action game similar to the Spider-Man titles on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, but with a lot more grittiness and blood. This isn't your friendly neighborhood hero. From the very first official footage, Insomniac Games made it very clear that Wolverine is going to have a very different tone. Seeing Logan get into fights with all sorts of enemies and slashing them to pieces with his adamantium claws looks vicious, and I can't wait to control it.
As of now, Marvel's Wolverine is planned to release in Fall of 2026. Provided no crazy things happen before then, we may have another fantastic superhero game to play on the PlayStation 5 before the year is over.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
Some old-school vintage heroism
Skydance Games and Marvel Games announced together that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra would be arriving after the early portion of 2026. It was originally planned to come out at the end of 2025 for the holiday season, but was delayed by the studio to have more time to work on the project. This Marvel action game takes everyone back to World War II, during a time when Captain America was fighting the forces of the Hydra in occupied Paris. It's a cool concept that steps away from having Captain America working in the modern day, something that has been done a lot lately because of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. But he's not going to be the only hero that appears to help out the Allies during the war.
The Black Panther of the era, along with Nanali from the Wakandan army, are going to appear as playable heroes. In addition to that, one of the members of the Howling Commandos, Gabriel Jones, is also a playable character. While specifics about how these heroes come together in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra are still being kept under wraps, it won't be a smooth first meeting between Captain America and the Black Panther. Like other Marvel stories, some heroes don't get along when they first encounter each other. But both Captain America and Black Panther have to set aside their differences to take on Hydra during a time of great war.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Versus battles with anime power
The fighting game genre and Marvel Comics are two things that go absolutely great together. After I got to play in the online beta for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, I can't wait for the full release in 2026. It's going to be one of the biggest fighting game releases of the year. Those who love classic fighting games like Marvel vs Capcom and X-Men vs Street Fighter are going to feel right at home with this new clash of superheroes made by Arc System Works for the PlayStation 5.
What makes Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls very interesting and different from other Marvel fighters is how it commits to its anime and manga-inspired presentation. The design for every character on the roster is heavily influenced by manga art and anime series that are popular in Japan. While the overall style of each character and their special moves are exactly what comic fans know them for, the twist on their new looks by Arc System Works is very creative and great to look at.
But the gameplay is where things will shine the most for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Much like the Versus series from Capcom before it, Marvel Tokon will have a lot of action unfolding on screen. Heroes will jump in to assist allies, flashy effects from super moves will shine on screen, and so many beatdowns online will take place. Most of the single-player story content is still hidden from everyone, but it's going to be the icing on an already great-looking cake when the game finally arrives sometime during the year. No specific release date has been announced yet, but Arc System Works did share after the open beta that everyone will be able to play the full version of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls in 2026.

An exciting new year for mighty Marvel
Now that 2025 has come and gone, the new year promises to be an exciting time for anyone that loves the Marvel Universe. Other games based on Marvel Comics are also in the works, even though they aren't planned for a release in 2026. But the games that are slated for the new year, even without solidified release dates, will be more than enough to keep everyone busy throughout the year. Better buckle up, true believers, because everyone is going on a wild ride in the Marvel Universe in 2026.
Big superhero games aren't going away, despite major release cancellations
Even though some major games have been cancelled, don't expect superhero games to be going away anytime soon. Here's why they're stronger than ever!
