There are many useful things you can 3D print, and some interesting applications of 3D printing are for decoration. Unlike traditional ways of creating things, which often limit customization and can be expensive, 3D printing allows for complete creative control and is cheaper. Many people have used this technology to create interesting decorative models and have published them on various popular 3D printing websites. We are going to look at some of the best ones. We selected them from different categories based on their popularity and the number of downloads and likes. Below are the five interesting ones:
5 Design a moon lamp
Eye-catching lamp that fits into any decor style
The moon lamp design is free, easy to print, and takes around two days to print. When you 3D print with a translucent filament like Inland PLA+ white, light marble PLA, or Prusa PLA silver and then shine the light, it emits a soft, calming glow. This makes it perfect for bedrooms, living rooms, or workspaces. It has a maximum diameter of 20.5 cm and a socket hole diameter of 40mm.
The designer recommends 3D printing the moon at an infill of 100% or 4–5 perimeters and a layer of 0.2mm. It doesn’t need supports, but you can add a brim. For stability, 3D print the moon's stand at an infill of 30% cubic, with a shell of three perimeters. Don’t use supports.
4 Easter Bunny
Make your Easter special with a unique 3D-printed Easter bunny
If you are looking for festive decoration prints for the upcoming Easter holiday, you should 3D print an Easter Bunny to bring a cheerful, playful touch to your home. This 3D model stands 110mm tall, but you can quickly scale it to any size using your 3D modeling program. The model's interior is hollow, which helps save both filament and print time—ideal for quick, efficient prints.
The Easter Bunny is also designed to be compatible with tea lights, allowing you to create a soft, glowing effect. Print it using a transparent or translucent filament for the best results, letting the light shine through beautifully.
3 Sunflower fabric coaster
Decorative fabric coaster inspired by sunflower seeds
The sunflower fabric coaster is circle-shaped and looks like sunflower seeds. It is flexible and additive to play with, but you should be careful not to get your fingers deep in the center, as they are catchy. The file takes around three hours to print, and the designer recommends using a layer height of 0.20mm and a concentric infill for the top layer without using supports. To 3D print a small design size, it’s recommended to use the XY scale in the 3D slicer and XYZ scaling to make a larger size. If you would like an extra-large size of the design, you can find it on Printables. Two additional rows of petals have been added, and there is a holder, too.
2 Mechanical wall clock
Add a touch of a flying bird to your wall
The mechanical wall clock is shaped like a flying bird, and all the parts are dimensioned to fit on at least an 18cm by 18cm build plate. When you assemble it, it measures 60x42cm. The weight is designed like a container with a screw-on lid, which you can fill with sand or rice to add mass. The total running time depends on how high you hang it on the wall. When you hang using the smallest reel, the weight descends at approximately 111cm per hour. The descent slows to around 9.6cm per hour using the tail feather version.
The designer recommends 3D printing at a layer height of 0.2mm and infill between 10-20%. All the gears and shafts have a small notch for the seam, and when slicing, you need to ensure you place the seam at that notch. If you use the Prusa Slicer, the seam should be aligned or closed. In Cura, it should be the nearest corner option. No post-processing activities are needed, but you have to ensure the top surface of the nuts and gears is smooth. If they are not, sand them gently to remove any imperfections.
1 Floating coffee cup sculpture
Eye-catching decorative piece for office or home
The floating coffee cup sculpture resembles a cup magically pouring coffee in midair. If you are a coffee enthusiast or love unique pieces, this design will bring creativity to your space. It’s ideal for office desks, shelves, or kitchen counters and is a fun conversation starter. The updated version includes a matching saucer base for stability and aesthetic appeal. To assemble it, you glue the cup onto the flowing splash and attach the splash to the saucer. This sculpture pairs well with other coffee-themed decor, adding artistic charm to any room.
3D print personalized decorative pieces
3D-printed decorative ideas don’t just beautify your space, but also spark interest and storytelling. These pieces can transform ordinary areas into visually appealing and engaging environments filled with personality. With 3D printing, you can turn imaginative ideas into tangible objects, and the best part is that you can always customize the shape, size, and colors of your designs.
Also, nowadays, cheap 3D printers are available that work out of the box, and you don’t need to have previous experience in 3D printing technology. This means you can 3D print anything you have in mind quickly, and if the one you have printed gets damaged or lost, you can easily replace it.
