Summary

  • Plasma 6.7 is on track for a Tuesday release after a final polish and many bug fixes.
  • Plasma 6.7 brings new features, such as a global mic mute hotkey, easy light/dark theme swap, and per-monitor virtual desktops.
  • Last-minute UI tweaks include remote-control notifications, smarter KRunner results, and dawn-timed theme switching.

It's an exciting time for KDE Plasma fans. For weeks now, we've heard that the KDE team wanted to get Plasma 6.7 released on June 16th, 2026. However, as is the case with all things technology, the planned release date was more of a goal than a strict deadline. If Plasma 6.7 ended up taking longer to polish, KDE would push the release date back.

Fortunately, it seems that KDE hasn't spotted any critical flaws in Plasma 6.7 and is on track to release the newest version this coming Tuesday. Given that we're mere days away from release, we're seeing a flurry of activity as KDE contributors race to get their patches into the build before submissions are closed for good.

KDE Plasma 6.7 is coming very soon with some interesting UI tweaks

Also, a lot of bug fixes

As confirmed on the KDE blog, the Plasma team has finished putting the last bits of polish on version 6.7. Unless something truly catastrophic happens, KDE believes that everything is set to release on Tuesday. The update will introduce some much-awaited features, such as a global microphone mute hotkey, easy light/dark theme swapping, and individual virtual desktops on each monitor.

Despite KDE Plasma 6.7 being mere days away, contributors are still checking in their last-minute changes before it's released. We usually see developers publish only bug fixes this late into the development cycle, but we've also seen some genuinely interesting-sounding tweaks to the UI slide into the 6.7 build before closing time. Here are some of my faves:

  • If you authorize an app to be able to remote-control the system without asking for permission first (for example, a remote desktop app), when it does so, now Plasma shows a notification that it’s happening. (David Redondo, xdg-desktop-portal-kde MR #571)
  • KRunner-powered searches now suppress results from the “Global Shortcuts” provider when there are better results from other ones, which makes the search results more relevant for common searches. (Oliver Beard, KDE Bugzilla #3710)
  • Changed the automatic day/night theme switcher to switch halfway between the start and end of dawn or dusk, rather than at the end. (Vlad Zahorodnii, Bugzilla #511973)
