From making it launch faster in Windows 11 to redesigning its web client, Microsoft introduced some significant changes to the Microsoft Store in the last few months. The company has more on offer in the form of a new feature in the Microsoft Store, allowing users to choose which drive they want their games to be installed on.

The ability to choose a specific drive for game installation is available in Microsoft Store version 22310.1401.8.0, as confirmed by Microsoft Store engineer Daniel on X platform (formerly Twitter). This is the latest version of the Microsoft Store and includes a drive-specific game installation feature. If you have anything lower than that, consider updating the Microsoft Store app to see it in action, as the update is available for all users.

As per a demo video shared by the Microsoft Store engineer, Microsoft Store will notify users, showing users where the game will be installed before downloading it. The notification will include an option to change the default drive, clicking on which will take you to the Microsoft Store Settings page, where you'll find the Game installation options section for changing the default drive.

Drive-specific installation capability isn't new to Windows. Windows 11 allows you to choose where you want to save your content, including apps, documents, music, photos and videos, and offline maps. To change the default state, you need to open the Settings app and navigate to System > Storage > Where new content is saved. And now that you have the same capability in the Microsoft Store app, you're just a click away from changing the default location, meaning you can change the location of the game installations more quickly and without opening another app.

If you're planning to install games on an external SSD, make sure you buy one of the best-quality portable SSDs, which will ensure a smooth gaming experience.
