We never got our hands on the MSI Claw A1M, but it's one of those PC gaming handhelds that didn't quite hit the mark when it was first released. Asus ROG Ally X vs. MSI Claw: Which is right for you?

Should you get the all-new Ally X or MSI's Intel-powered gaming handheld? Here's everything you need to know to decide.

What's great about the MSI Claw A1M?

On paper, it's going to look pretty similar to other PC gaming handhelds that are on the market. The MSI Claw A1M features an ergonomic design that's comfortable to use for long hours, and also just small enough that you can shove into a backpack. We wouldn't say it's the most portable device you'll find, but if you love gaming on the go, lugging it around is going to be well worth it.

The Claw also features a 7-inch 1080p display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, along with an Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage. There's also a microSD card slot which can expand storage, just in case you need to install more apps or games. You can also crack open the handheld if you're looking to upgrade the SSD storage, but that takes a bit more work.

When it comes to the software, the device runs Windows 11, which still isn't the best platform for a portable gaming handheld. However, MSI has issued some software updates since the device's release which makes the experience more enjoyable. In order to get the best performance, we do recommend checking forums online to get the best results.

While it isn't perfect, it's surely one to take a look at if you're someone looking to buy a portable PC for gaming. Although there are plenty of other options, they won't be as cheap as the Claw if you're looking for something running Windows.
