Summary

  • RTX 5070 prices are soaring to $100+ over MSRP
  • Scalpers are already listing the RTX 5070 for $1,100+
  • Nvidia's Founder's Edition RTX 5070 won't be available until late March

Nvidia's new RTX 5070 is officially available, and although you can still find the card in stock at retailers, you probably won't like the price. As Nvidia promised, several models are listed at MSRP, but they're sold out. If you want to buy an RTX 5070 now, you'll spend at least $100 over list price, which is a bad deal considering the performance I saw in our RTX 5070 review.

RTX 5070 prices are already skyrocketing

On Newegg, the most inexpensive RTX 5070 you'll still find in stock is the MSI Gaming Trio OC model, which clocks in at $650 -- $100 over Nvidia's list price. That's not the worst of it, either. I counted nine models available for $700 or more on Newegg. Naturally, overclocked versions are more expensive, but we're dealing with a price hike of $150 to $200. That starts to encroach on the territory of the $750 RTX 5070 Ti.

I wasn't able to find any models in stock on Amazon or Best Buy, either. If you want a shot at getting an RTX 5070 at list price, your best bet is Micro Center. My local Micro Center has several models available at list price, though you're only able to purchase one in-store. Given the stock situation at online retailers, that's probably a good thing.

On the secondhand market, things are worse. Some early listings for the RTX 5070 have popped up on eBay, and scalpers are asking upwards of $1,100 for the card. None of these listings have sold yet, but based on what we've seen with the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090, there's a good chance that some poor soul with too much money to burn will fall for one of these listings.

It's not surprising that prices are inflated out of the gate. Nvidia quietly revealed that, although it's launching a Founder's Edition design of the RTX 5070, it won't arrive until later in March. The Founder's Edition model serves as the model available at list price, and the lack of such design with the RTX 5070 Ti is why we saw such inflated prices. It looks like that situation will play out again with the RTX 5070 over the next few weeks.

The pricing situation isn't helped by AMD's new RX 9070 XT and RX 9070. Those GPUs are set to launch on March 6 for $599 and $549, respectively, and as you can read in our RX 9070 XT review, it absolutely smokes the RTX 5070. Let's just hope supply can keep up with demand so you'll actually be able to buy a new graphics card at list price.
