Blinko is different here. The layout is clean and puts my notes front and center without any unnecessary clutter. The smooth animations throughout the app are a delight. Whether I’m opening a note, switching between views, or searching, every transition feels fluid and responsive.

Blinko also offers rich customization options. I love being able to tweak the look and feel to match my personal preference or even mood. Blinko has nailed the basics here. For writing, I appreciate the range of formatting options available. First of all, it handles Markdown beautifully, which makes it easy for me to move from Obsidian.

And for those who are not comfortable with Markdown, there is a familiar toolbar at the top to format notes like a pro. It’s efficient for structuring my notes exactly how I envision them.

Just like Evernote and Obsidian, it supports tags so that I can organize my notes efficiently. And throughout all of this – the writing, the organizing, the switching – the overall performance is simply snappy. Unlike many self-hosting apps, there is no lag or frustrating delays.

There is also a neat task management with reminders functionality. It’s not as robust as Notion, though, but gets the job done.

Blinko has added AI capabilities in a couple of ways. There is a dedicated AI tab where I can add prompts and get answers by one of the added models. It supports all the popular models from OpenAI, Google, Ollama, Deepseek, Grok, and more.

And then there is AI-powered search that leverages RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation). That means I no longer have to remember the exact keywords I used when I wrote a note. I can use natural language queries to search and access my notes.

For instance, instead of searching something like ‘Q3 marketing plan ideas’, I can type ‘What were those brainstorming points for the next quarter’s marketing strategy?’ and Blinko AI understands the intent behind the question and pulls up relevant notes.

Blinko offers a robust statistics menu. It displays the number of notes, total words, max daily words, active days, and even a heat map to visualize my writing sessions. There is even tag distribution where I can see the overall breakdown in a pie chart.

It’s well implemented and keeps you on track of your writing habits. It’s one of the things I would love to see in Notion, Obsidian, and other knowledge management tools.
