I've often thought about switching between reading an ebook and listening to an audiobook, but I've always assumed it would be too much of a hassle to find the exact part of the book I'm on, and just not worth the effort. Thankfully, Spotify's new Page Match aims to address this issue, while also taking things a step further. The feature lets Spotify users seamlessly switch between ebooks, audiobooks, and physical books by scanning printed text, all without users losing their spot.
The physical book-matching aspect of Page Match is compatible with Spotify's roughly 500,000 audiobook catalog, but if a book isn't included, it can be purchased. Spotify says that if you snap a photo of a specific ebook page, Page Match will also work. Additionally, the feature is compatible with Recap, which provides an AI-generated summary of what users have read so far in a book.
Read seamlessly on whatever format you want
Jump from a physical book, to an e-book, to an audiobook
Page Match lets you start reading a physical book in the morning, switch to an audiobook over lunch, and then dive into the e-book version of the same novel while traveling in the evening. I can't see myself moving from a physical book to an e-book, but I'd definitely take advantage of shifting to an audiobook when I'm doing things like cleaning my house or going for a walk.
To use Page Match, follow the steps below:
-
- Open the Spotify mobile app and find the title you’re reading.
- Tap the Page Match button.
- Use your camera to scan a page in your physical book.
- Spotify finds your spot in the audiobook.
- Scan again to find the right place in the text if you're going back to a physical book.
Page Match is rolling out now to all Premium Spotify subscribers. Spotify Premium costs $13/month and includes 15 hours of audiobooks — you can then buy 10-hour top-ups ($13/month) or AudioBooks+ ($12/month).
