Summary

  • Nintendo Switch 2 may support third-party computer mice for gameplay.
  • Producer of Nobunga's Ambition: Awakening CE showed Switch 2 gameplay with a USB mouse.
  • While not confirmed for all games, Nintendo may embrace third-party mice for the Switch 2.

It's no secret by now that Switch 2 has a feature that is not too unlike that of a computer mouse. You can use one of the Joy-Con 2s and drag it around a surface to emulate the same kind of controls that someone with a keyboard and mouse would have (well, maybe except the keyboard).

But what about using third-party mice? Is that possible? Well, given that it's Nintendo we're talking about here, it's easy to assume that they won't. However, we've heard some interesting news that, actually, maybe third-party mice will work with it.

The Nintendo Switch 2 may work with computer mice

As spotted by Engadget, this piece of information came from one of the most unsuspecting sources you could expect: the gameplay preview for the Nintendo Switch 2 title Nobunga's Ambition: Awakening CE, as shown by its producer, Michi Ryu.

The gameplay looks pretty solid, but as Engadget spotted, there's a specific part (timestamped above) where Michi Ryu says something very interesting. As Engadget translated:

"Once you connect the USB mouse, a message will appear in the top left indicating that the mouse is connected. When the USB mouse is connected, it takes priority over the Joy-Con 2. As you can see, you can switch instantly. It's very smooth."

The mouse he uses in the video doesn't look like a Nintendo-branded one whatsoever. As such, it's pretty safe to assume that the Nintendo Switch 2 will, in some form, accept inputs from third-party mice. So that's nice.

Does this mean you can use your Logitech to play a Metroid game? We're not sure. All we really know is that this specific game will work with third-party mice, and there is no guarantee that it will apply to every single game that accepts the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. However, Nintendo would be missing out on making bank on producing official Legend of Zelda mice, so perhaps it's not so far-fetched that the Switch 2's mouse support would be more widespread than a single game.
