Dbrand has been teasing a Killswitch case for the Nintendo Switch 2 for the past few months, and just moments before the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is supposed to go live, the company has opened up reservations. It's not a pre-order. Dbrand handles reservations similarly to pre-ordering a physical game. You can reserve the Killswitch now for $3, which will go toward the final amount you need to spend when the case launches in June. Dbrand says you'll be able to cancel and receive a refund at any time, as well.

A Killswitch so you don't kill your Switch (2)

Dbrand's cheekiness is getting to be a little too much

The Killswitch isn't anything new, and it's quickly become one of the best accessories for the Asus ROG Ally and Steam Deck. Just like the version for PC handhelds, the Killswitch for the Switcxh 2 is a case for your console that's meant to keep it safe, alongside a plastic top cover you can snap on for a thin travel setup. The Switch 2 version comes with a few key upgrades, though.

First, the Joy-Cons. As you can see in Dbrand's renders above, you're able to detach the Joy-Cons on the Switch 2 even when you have the case on. Dbrand also has a grip on the Joy-Cons that looks more like a Steam Deck, with raised surfaces for the device to rest in your palms and a sculpted edge for you to rest your fingers on.

Beyond the Joy-Cons, the Killswitch comes with a built-in kickstand, and Dbrand is offering a dock for you to set your Switch 2 in while you have the Killswitch connected, including USB-C passthrough. It's not clear if Dbrand is working directly with Nintendo, but it doesn't appear that's the case. When the Killswitch was originally teased, Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz told The Verge that the design was based on a "3D scan of real hardware."

The travel cover has seen some upgrades, too. It's still a plastic shell that snaps to the front of the case to keep your Switch 2 safe while traveling, but it's semi-transparent now. Dbrand designed an insert for the travel cover that can hold several Switch games. It has only shown the cartridge holder with original Switch cartridges, but hopefully the Switch 2 will have cartridges with the same dimensions.

Dbrand tells me it hasn't finalized pricing details yet. "Individual accessories will generally align with our current Steam Deck Killswitch Pricing," Ijaz told me. "Bundled kits, which include additional features unique to the Switch 2, are likely to be priced slightly higher than their Steam Deck counterparts, given the additional components."
