Summary

  • Valve says Steam Machine launches summer 2026 — a broad late‑June to late‑Sept window, no exact date.
  • 'Welcome Tour' page hints Steam Machine could drop sooner, mirroring Steam Controller's quick launch.
  • High component prices and RAM shortage mean the Steam Machine will likely cost around $1,000.

Following months of rumors and an indefinite delay due to the ongoing rampocalypse, Valve has finally confirmed when the Steam Machine will release in a recent developer-focused blog post. According to Valve, the Steam Machine will drop in summer 2026 — which isn't a specific release date, but at least it's something beyond just "2026," right?

"Today we are expanding the Verified program to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame. We’re excited for players to try your titles on the new Steam hardware once they launch this summer," writes Valve in the blog post. "As with Steam Deck Verified, the goal is to help customers understand the out-of-box experience for a given title on these new devices, and how smoothly a game will run with no user work or configuration required."

At this point, you might be wondering when exactly the "summer' is? Good question. With North America in mind, summer usually runs from late June through to late September, which is a pretty broad release window. This means that the Steam Machine could drop at any point in the next three and a half months. If I had to guess, I'd expect a late August to early September launch in order to best capitalize on the busy holiday shopping season.

We might see the Steam Machine arrive even earlier

Valve's console-like PC will likely be very expensive

However, on May 30th, Valve added a Steam Machine "Welcome Tour" page to the backend of its website. This is noteworthy because the Steam Controller dropped roughly two weeks after its Welcome Tour page was added to Valve's website. It's possible the Steam Machine could follow a similar pattern, indicating we might see the console-like PC drop before the end of the month.

It's worth noting that, in addition to not having a specific release date, we still don't know how much the Steam Machine will cost. Given the ongoing RAM shortage and the skyrocketing prices of handhelds (including the Steam Deck) and pretty much every PC component, the Steam Machine's cost is likely in the $1,000 range, since its original estimated price was around $700.
