UPDATE: 2026/01/15 09:37 EST BY PATRICK O'ROURKE

The widespread Verizon outage ended at roughly 10:30pm ET/7:30pm PT after being down for roughly 10 hours. The carrier still hasn't released what caused the network issues. In a statement to multiple publications, Verizon said the following regarding the network issues: "The outage has been resolved. If customers are still having an issue, we encourage them to restart their devices to reconnect to the network. For those affected, we will provide account credits. Details will be shared directly with customers. We sincerely apologize for the disruption."

If your phone doesn't have a network connection or your home internet isn't working right now, don't worry, you aren't alone.

As of early Wednesday afternoon, thousands of Verizon users have reported that their phones and home internet have lost network connection. According to Downdetector, outage reports peaked at roughly 12:30pm ET/9:30am PT at roughly 180,000 reports. Since then, outage reports have slowed, but the network remains down.

iPhones are showing "SOS" in the status bar, indicating that only satellite connectivity is available. Android devices display that no network is available, with the Galaxy S25, Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series being exceptions, given the smartphones also support Satellite SOS emergency communication.

Verizon is aware of the issue and is posting updates on X, as well as responding to complaints regarding the ongoing outage. It's currently unclear what the cause of the issue is. XDA has reached out to Verizon for a statement and will update this story with more information when it's available.

In a recent update, Verizon said that its team is on the ground and is "actively working to fix today's service issue." The company says that it's aware this is a "huge inconvenience, and our top priority is to get you back online and connected as fast as possible."

T-Mobile is also reporting service issues, which isn't surprising given the carrier shares some infrastructure with Verizon. However, the issues don't appear to be as widespread. AT&T's network is still online.

According to reports, even after the network is restored, the SOS message could still appear on iPhones. If your iPhone is stuck in SOS, navigate to Settings > Cellular and turn Cellular Data on and off. Another option is checking for carrier settings updates by navigating to Settings > General > About. Finally, you can also try restarting your iPhone.
