Asus overhauled the design of the ROG Ally X to squeeze in a much larger battery and to prioritize ergonomics. Put simply, it was an excellent move. The Asus ROG Ally X has an 80Wh battery capacity that's double the size of the original ROG Ally, and that translates well to real-world performance. Of course, there are a few drawbacks to the bulkier chassis. Many of our favorite Asus ROG Ally docking stations are likely incompatible with the ROG Ally X, at least on paper. That means the dock you own might not work with your new PC gaming handheld, and it might be tricky to find one that's compatible with the ROG Ally X if you're an early adopter.
But if you're familiar with tech products and accessories, you'll know that just because things are incompatible on paper doesn't mean they're incompatible in real-world usage. So, to find out whether the ROG Ally X will really work with the slew of Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go docking stations, we tried six of them (plus one honorable mention). Here's what we learned.
1 Jsaux 6-in-1 Multifunction Docking Station
Made for the ROG Ally X, this one is a perfect fit
To start, we tried Jsaux's brand-new 6-in-1 multifunctional docking station. This one is designed specifically for the ROG Ally X, so it's not a surprise that it worked flawlessly. However, it's a good example of what the perfect ROG Ally X dock looks like. It has a sturdy base with plenty of counterweight, and this will help secure the heavy handheld. There's also a long, rigid braided cable that can reach both of the handheld's USB-C ports. Asus moved the ROG Ally's ports to the top left of the handheld with the ROG Ally X, and this design choice may limit what docks work with this device. If you're looking for a new docking station to buy for your ROG Ally X, this is the one to get.

The Asus ROG Ally X is bigger than the gaming handhelds we've seen previously, and the Jsaux 6-in-1 multifunctional docking station is specifically designed to fit the larger size. It features a compelling two-part design that allows you to use the USB hub separately, like with a laptop. You get plenty of USB ports, power delivery, 4K video, and Gigabit Ethernet here.
2 Ugreen 7-in-1 Docking Station
If only the cable was long enough, this one would have passed
Next up was the Ugreen 7-in-1 docking station, which is designed for the Steam Deck but also works with the original ROG Ally. I had high hopes for this one, because the ROG Ally X actually fit into the base of Ugreen's stand. Sure, the viewing angle wasn't perfect, but it was possible to slot the ROG Ally X into this 7-in-1 docking station.
Or so I thought. While the Ugreen 7-in-1 docking station fit the ROG Ally X, its USB-C host cable wasn't long enough to reach either of the handheld's USB-C ports. As you can see in the photo above, it got so close, but didn't quite get all the way there. This is a problem that I didn't foresee, although it makes a lot of sense in hindsight. Even the docks that physically fit the ROG Ally X might not work with the new handheld because the ports are on the left side. For example, the Steam Deck's USB-C port is on the right side, hence why it's not a problem on that device.
UGREEN Steam Deck Dock

Ugreen's 6-in-1 dock for PC gaming handhelds can expand the uses of your device, turning it into a complete desktop workstation. There are a lot of ports, a great design, and affordable pricing on this USB docking station. It works with the best gaming handhelds, from the Steam Deck to the Asus ROG Ally.
3 Jsaux 7-in-1 Docking Station
A failure by every measure — don't buy this if you're an ROG Ally X owner
We tried Jsaux's Steam Deck docking station after that, which is a 7-in-1 solution. This one didn't fare well when tested with the ROG Ally X. The Jsaux 7-in-1 docking station has a small slot for gaming handhelds and rubber grips that keep them from budging. That's a great thing if you have a Steam Deck or ROG Ally, but it's bad news if you have an ROG Ally X. The bigger device doesn't stand up at all, and the USB-C host cable doesn't reach the ROG Ally X's USB-C ports, either.

- USB Power Delivery

- Price

- Dimensions
- 150*67*28mm
The Jsaux 7-in-1 Docking Station is a great starting point for expanding your gaming handheld. It lets you connect your device to two external displays, an Ethernet connection, and USB accessories. It isn't the fastest or most feature-rich dock, but it offers all the essentials at a reasonable price point.
4 Jsaux 6-in-1 SSD Docking Station
Maybe the worst one yet in terms of ROG Ally X compatibility
This 6-in-1 docking station from Jsaux is unique in that it doubles as an M.2 SSD enclosure. That's great for expanding the storage of your Steam Deck or ROG Ally (it's designed for the Steam Deck first and foremost). However, it's a collosal failure when paired with the ROG Ally X. The handheld doesn't even fit into the docking station, and the USB-C host cable doesn't fit either.
JSAUX Docking Station with M.2 SSD enclosure
- Ports
- 2x USB 3.2 Type-A, 1x USB-C PD 100W, 1x Gigabit Ethernet, 1x HDMI
- USB Power Delivery
- 100W
- Power supply included
- 65W charger
- Max display res.
- 4K@60Hz / 2K@120Hz
- Dimensions
- 5.51"L x 2.63"W x 1.1"H
This docking station is designed for the Steam Deck, and its calling card is a built-in M.2 SSD enclosure. It's perfect for adding extra storage to your handheld, and it also adds an HDMI port, two USB-A ports, 100W power delivery via USB-C, and Gigabit Ethernet.
5 Jsaux 12-in-1 RGB Docking Station & Docking Station Pro
Thanks to a wide stand and a detachable cable, these ones pass with flying colors
To round out the gaming handheld docking stations tested, we tried Jsaux's 12-in-1 RGB Docking Station and Docking Station Pro. Surprisingly, these two docking stations passed with flying colors. They feature retractable stands that are more than large enough to fit the thick body of the ROG Ally X. Plus, these two docking stations use a detachable USB-C host cable. The one you get in the box works with the ROG Ally X, but you also have the flexibility of using a longer one if you need to.
I can recommend both docking stations as compatible with the ROG Ally X; however, there were build quality concerns I found with the original Jsaux 12-in-1 RGB Docking Station. Be sure to check out my full review before buying it, because the plastic chassis might not be up to scratch.
Jsaux 12-in-1 RGB Docking Station
- Ports
- 1x SD, 1x microSD, 1x 3.5mm jack, 2x USB-A 3.2, 1x USB-A 2.0, HDMI, DisplayPort, 1x USB-C 3.2, Ethernet jack, USB-C PD, USB-C Host
- USB Power Delivery
- Yes, 100W
- Power supply included
- No, but cable included
- Max display res.
- 4K-120Hz/2K-144Hz output (HDMI) and 4K@120Hz/2K-165Hz output (DisplayPort)
- Price
- $90
- Dimensions
- 150mm x 92mm x 28.2mm
Jsaux's 12-in-1 RGB Docking Station aims to be a stylish way to turn a gaming handheld into a complete gaming setup. It includes all the ports you'd need, and adds some extras like RGB lighting at its base. However, it skimps out on the basics, which is its downfall.
6 Ugreen Revodok Pro
An honorable mention that gaming handheld users should consider
We've looked at six gaming handheld docking stations thus far, but I wanted to bring up the Ugreen Revodok Pro USB-C hub as an honorable mention. USB-C hubs are a great way to expand the connectivity of any gaming handheld you own without having to worry about connectivity. Of course, this Ugreen Revodok Pro works great with the ROG Ally X, even if it doesn't come with a stand. For what it's worth, Asus does include two cardboard stands for free in the box with the ROG Ally X, and I paired them with a USB-C hub in the photo above. It's a surprisingly-good option if you want flexibility.
UGREEN Revodok Pro 313 USB-C Docking Station
The Ugreen Revodok Pro 313 USB-C docking station is the right choice if you need a functional dock to improve efficiency without taking away much of your workspace. It'll also work with gaming handhelds, like the ROG Ally X, too.
What I learned from trying all these gaming handheld docks
After trying one dock made for the ROG Ally X, five made for the ROG Ally/Steam Deck, and one USB-C hub, the results were somewhat unexpected. I thought that many Steam Deck and ROG Ally docking stations would work with the ROG Ally X functionally, even if the fit or angle wasn't ideal. However, because of the new placement of the USB-C ports on the ROG Ally X, a docking station needs to have a long host cable and a wide enough stand to fit the thicker chassis.
While we did find a few ROG Ally/Steam Deck docks that were compatible with the ROG Ally X, I wouldn't count on most existing docks working with Asus' new handheld. In all likelihood, you're going to have to buy a new one that's made specifically for the ROG Ally X due to the design changes.
Asus ROG Ally X hands-on: 48 hours later, this is my favorite PC gaming handheld
Windows is still like an anchor dragging this device down
