The Change.org petition hits 3,644 verified signatures

Phew, you folks went big over the weekend. Since the publication of this article, the number of verified signatures has increased from 678 to 3,644. Hopefully, this gives the petition enough momentum for Microsoft to take notice.

Original story now follows.

Summary

  • Fans petition Microsoft to revive Windows Phone with a modern UI and app support.
  • Petition argues for Windows 11-style features: Microsoft 365, Copilot, and contemporary apps.
  • Change.org petition has hundreds of signatures; Microsoft has yet to respond.

Do you miss the Windows Phone? If not, you really should. It's something that we here at XDA wonder about all the time. What if Microsoft didn't decide to throw in the towel with its mobile phone operating system and kept going? Given how Microsoft is adding new features to make Windows 11 a suitable console OS, it's not a stretch to imagine that, if Windows Phone had kept going, we'd see mobile variants of it too.

Well, it seems we're not the only ones who are hoping for a revival of the Windows Phone. Someone has published a Change.org petition encouraging Microsoft to get back into the saddle with its mobile offerings, and it has garnered a few signatures already.

Will it be enough?

Over on Change.org, user Σπύρος Κ. posted a petition to bring back the Windows Phone. It has already garnered 678 verified signatures at the time of writing, and people are already sharing their stories in the comments, detailing why they'd want Windows 11 on their mobile phones.

Here's how the petition puts forward its case for Microsoft to act:

We’re calling on Microsoft to revive Windows Phone, a platform ahead of its time that still has a passionate fanbase.

Windows Phone offered a clean, fast, smooth and innovative experience with features like Live Tiles, deep Microsoft integration, and a bold, unique design. In a world dominated by iOS and Android, there's room—and demand—for a third ecosystem focused on simplicity, productivity, and user choice.

The petition does clarify that it's not looking for "a return to the past;" after all, if Microsoft simply dug out the image files for Windows Phone, how it was all those years ago, and re-released it, it'd never take off. Instead, the petition asks Microsoft to produce a Windows Phone OS that works with modern hardware, a new UI, with support for Microsoft 365, Copilot, and all the apps people use these days.

Right now, Change.org has listed the petition as "awaiting response" from Microsoft. As such, we have no idea if the Redmond giant will even honor this petition with a response, let alone accept its terms. Still, if you want Microsoft to hear your voice, head over to the Change.org website linked earlier and add your signature. Who knows, maybe Microsoft will take the renewed interest as a reason to bring back Windows Phone. Just don't be surprised if it comes with Copilot.
