Fifteen complaints have been submitted over Oliver Stubb, son of President Alexander Stubb, landing an internship at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA).

The Parliamentary Ombudsman’s office informed the news group Uutissuomalainen (USU) of the complaints and said the timeline for processing them is yet to be decided.

Oliver Stubb began a university internship as a research assistant at the institute in June. His selection has drawn criticism, in part because he received different guidance than other applicants when applying for the position.

Among other things, the complainants have asked the authorities to determine whether Oliver Stubb was favoured over other applicants and whether there were potential violations in their administrative practices.

Documents obtained by Ilta-Sanomat suggest that the other candidates interviewed for the post were much more advanced in their studies than Oliver Stubb, and some of them also had work experience in the field of international politics. There were 59 applications for the post, and five candidates were invited for an interview.

It was also reported that the FIIA changed their rules on traineeships to allow applications from UK universities two days after Oliver Stubb enquired about the post.

Stubb has completed the first year of a bachelor's degree in politics, philosophy and economics at Exeter University in the UK.
