Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Friday formally appointed MP Wille Rydman (Finns) as the country's new minister of social affairs and health.

At the same time, the president released Kaisa Juuso (Finns) from her duties as social affairs and health minister, according to a government press release.

Just over a week ago, the Finns Party's leader, Riikka Purra, announced that Juuso was stepping down from the post and would also be taking a period of sick leave.

Juuso also took sick leave last spring.

After Purra's announcement, Juuso wrote in a Facebook post that her work at the health ministry had been trying.

Since last summer, shs has led a working group tasked with finding ways of cutting social services spending by 100 million euros. However, the group only proposed cuts of half that amount.

Rydman, 40, will likely need to find saving measures for the ministry, as PM Petteri Orpo's (NCP) coalition government is expected to further cut spending.

In December, Purra — who serves as finance minister — said the Finns Party would be prepared to make further spending cuts during the remainder of the government's term.

As Rydman stepped down from his role as economic affairs minister, taking a ministerial oath for his new post was not necessary.
