i think only fans of the series might find this show interesting, because it's one of the few animes I regret ever watching, because it was a waste of time.
over used themes, cliched characters, nothing really stands out, and is very forgettable, except for how bad it was.
I strongly suggest either playing the games, not sure if the plot is as bad as this series, but
at least they have Tony's beautiful artwork, or better still watch a good anime series.

If someone like headbutting wall or faceplaming monitor, that's the title for him! Damn, now my head hurts a lot ... Well, the plot twists and all give a lot of lolz, that's for sure. And that's what makes this show definetly not boring.

Watch it only if you're fan of some of STxW themes. If you're not, think twice about watching it.

This become one of my favorite anime in a short time. True it was made from a PS game and because of that many would have high expectations from the anime.
However I haven’t played the game and still loved it as well as many of my friends.

Animation: The graphics were beautiful. It was satisfying. Beautiful landscapes and matching sites. Effects were acceptable.

Sound: The music suited the mood and increased it. The music of the intro was and turned into my favorite soon.

Story
The best thing in the story was the originality like lets summon weapons from party members. It is filled with action and went quick. They haven’t explained all minor details but for more details play the game or read after it. It was made from a game after all. Everything what was important explained and was understandable. Thanks to this the 13 eps were an excellent number of eps. Not too long not too short so perfect.

Character
The characters appearance was good nothing special but still had stylish dresses.
Xion / Zero's appearance was Divine is passed well for his presence.
The girl characters were cute most of them even moe ^^.
They could have more types of cloths and more dressing.

Value
I watched it 2 times. And would watch at least one more time. The anime is like a two-edged sword however, some people like it very much like myself others might not at all. It worth’s to watch at least once.

Enjoyment
I recommend this anime to those who like action with lots of Ultima weapons summoned from moe girls. XD
Every character had a will to fight and a resolve with the same goal Save the world.
I like irony so the end was suitable for my liking if you watch this anime you will understand.
It was enjoyable continuous action with a slow beginning and enough mystery until the end.
I loved it.

If you belong to the people who hate a popular anime like Evangelion, Azumanga Daioh, Planetes, Suzumiya Haruhi, Full Metal Alchemist or School Rumble, and think this is the worst series ever, then you need to watch a show which can truly show all the horrors that are possible in animated form.

And here's where Shining Tears X Wind comes into play. The staff working on it tries to make the worst series to hit Japanese TV ever, with an elaborate diligence, and most of the time they manage to do it. Almost surpassing such tv animation gems as GUN-dou Musashi, Hanoka, Legend of Duo, RUN=DIM, Platonic Chain or last year's worst series, as voted by 2ch users, Cabbage Love (Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na). A most impressive trait considering the competition in form of Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica and Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo, which aired at the same time.

Shining Tears X Wind is based on the game Shining Tears and its sequel Shining Wind and serves as a bridge between the two, money making at its best.

The whole thing looks like the staff working on it was doing something else the whole time and only threw together each episode when they coincidently met at the studio one day.

Character animation ranks from unbelievably poor to unbelievably bad. Aside from the frame rate which probably breaks all records with an average of 2, nobody did ever bother to do the inbetweens, nor did anybody clean-up. Scenes just include minimal key drawings moving, or rather stuttering, to the next minimal key drawings and all of them are just very poorly drawn, mangled faces and bodies, missing body parts, improbable postures, the whole range of stuff, you can do wrong when drawing, is there. Something leads me to think most of the credits were made up and they just saved themselves costs for ADs and other important staff.

Whoever made the storyboards was either totally drunk or they didn't bother with small stuff like that to begin with. Stuff dis- and reappears between scene changes, stuff just gets omitted for no reason, continuity, proportion and placing errors are everywhere, transitions between scenes don't exist at all. It's almost ridiculous to follow the show. In one scene you see a large scaled battle between two armies in the middle of nowhere, or you are supposed to see it because all you see is just some lines which are people, the hero rushes to help, or rather moves mechanically there, in the next few minutes you won't see anything of that battle, the only characters you will see are the main characters, nor will you hear any sounds at all, but suddenly there appeared a castle there.

Character designs are a horrible deformation of Tony Taka's original designs and details don't exist in this show to begin with, whether it's actual animation or just still frames and there is a big load of poor looking stills here. Effects, if used, can't be even called that. Backgrounds don't actually exist, it's mostly just one big splash of the same color, how nifty that they can let the whole show take place in the desert. There are also several instances of CG use, which is just basic models, without any detail, as if they just took them from a package of the used software.

Cabbage and Musashi were at least so bad animated that it made one laugh. Shining Tears turns even the manliest man amongst men into a crying and weeping baby, this is how bad it is.

The story could be actually interesting, could because here, as well, the script does not know any transition. Steady, logical and plausible development? Not needed! Just throw scene after scene at the viewer regardless whether it makes sense or not. A character can easily change from a total jackass, who only wanted to fight and did never pay attention to others, to the most considerate person, who is loved by everybody, within seconds. Just as well a character, who was the most perfect, can change into a total asshole within seconds. Everything for no reason at all. Include a character who develops a split personality to randomly change as the story flows and some other right out idiotical plot parts, place changes and random short scenes which don't serve any purpose at all and you ruined the little bit of potential there was.

Not to mention the dialogues, which are more or less random, contrived and cheesy. Did they just get a middle-schooler to write those? The fact that the voice actors read their lines as if they just sleep walked into the recording studio, and some of them even dub several characters, doesn't exactly add to the value and impression of the dialogues. If only it offers a good way to sell several drama and character cds since all of the voice actors are quite known, especially fangirl favourites Souichirou Hoshi and Ishida Akira (Kira and Athrun from Gundam SEED, Goku and Hakkai from Saiyuki).

A funny random fact concerning that. The series does have a big female cast. However, there is little to no female fanservice. Quite the contrary, there are several outstanding yaoi fanservice scenes including Souma x Zero and Souma x Kiriya. A ploy to lure the fangirls? Honi soit qui mal y pense.

Ah, right, there was also some music in the series and a few poor sound effects, maybe, here is where my mind gets clouded, watching an episode every few weeks in agony takes its toll. Opening and ending, both by Hoshi, were ok to listen to, but that's also the only memorable thing about the music.

One good thing about the series is that it ends. Very predictable, bar one thing, of course that one doesn't make much sense considering the development of the story till then, but it does actually close the story, only leaving some plot parts out.

If you are a masochist or would like to watch a actual bad series, instead of complaining about a popular and well rated series, then Shining Tears X Wind is for you. Everybody else, stay away.

gameplay feast == screenplay failure.

Granted, I haven't played the Shining Tears game, but I played a good deal of other JRPGs - and watching this series quickly reminds you why it is a fairly dangerous idea to obstinately translate any RPG story verbatim into an anime. Some things simply do not work on screen.

The facial designs and the hair styles are very detailed (if a bit stiff) and the costumes also do their part... however, that is where the visual goodness ends. The backgrounds are blotchy, the scene lighting fails constantly, the special effects are very much on the conventional side and - worst of all - the actual animation fluidity is nothing but infernal. Tons of still-frames, repeated cels, slow pans, weird scene cuts and so on.

The OP and ED are sufficiently catchy while the BG music is average. Fortunately, the Seiyuu cast is quite solid (among them famous HorieYui and KawasumiAyako) and they do a fairly good job. So, while the sound is nothing special, there is not much to complain about on that side.

Well, they didn't make an anime -about- the game, they made an anime -of- the game. Which means that they apparently kept every single plot turn, revelation, chronology and doublecrossing just like it was in the game. Which leads to a totally abrupt narrative pacing that literally jumps "from game cutscene to game cutscene". To a degree that, at times, you just can't help seeing the proceedings re-enacted by super-deformed tiny hero sprites with your mental eye. ^^;

Oh, there's a whole slew of them. And while each single chara may indeed bear promise, any catchiness they might offer gets totally lost in the turmoil of their multitude and in the jumpy narration. In other words, as soon as you've gotten a little bit used to a face, it's immediately buried by the next newcomer - or the chara is put on "tags along in the background" mode because her specific plot branch is already finished.

So far, every single anime title that based itself on some fantasy JRPG/MORPG made concessions to that transition. Be it TalesOfEternia, Ragnarok, Izumo an so on. Every time, there was at least some streamlining of the plot, smoothing of the storytelling, changes in the character setup, dropped charas, dropped plot branches etc.

Shining Tears does none of the above.
As a result, you get it all: Plenty of nonsensical faction changes, vital explanatory information divulged at alien points of time, battles whose course vividly illustrates the combat logic, beastman charas that are clad in armor so pompous/impractical that they can hardly move during combat... shall I continue? And yes, some things are quite interesting and original (like how the heroes can form swords from the souls of their allies) but even that loses some of it's charm after you've seen it done for n-th time to n-th cute girl party member.

To make a long story short, this series made me somewhat interested in playing the game - but it was a failure in terms of entertainment. The story sure progresses fast enough to keep you from getting bored, but you hardly get attached to any of the characters and thus you don't care all that much about what happens to them, which is a major hindrance for any kind of immersion.

Watch it if you want to see a J-RPG acted out on screen. That it does quite nicely. But if you look for a fantasy romance or a sword-n-sorcery action title, better stay away from this one.

P.S.: As some know, I have a reputation for being able to enjoy a bad show as long as it features nice visuals. And indeed, I managed to derive some enjoyment because almost all the character artwork is indeed lovely. But the ugly BGs and lousy animation killed most of it.

king (2)This character rules a kingdom. Normally, kings are men, and their female counterparts are called queens, but in anime there is at least one known female king. Real-life kings of the past usually held absolute power, but as the time went on more and more kings had to be subjected to control from an external body, in the form of constitutional monarchies. In modern real-life kingdoms, it is very common for the king to be restricted to the role of a popular and political leader who no longer has any ruler powers. Kingship is usually inherited, and rules vary from place to place, but the most common is: preference goes to the direct descendants (e.g. sons are privileged in comparison with nephews), normally by the eldest relative in a given line, and in most monarchies a male will displace a female, often even in more preferred lines (e.g. a nephew would displace an older niece and often also an elder daughter, but not a younger son).mercenary (2)A mercenary is a person who takes part in an armed conflict who is not a national or party to the conflict and is "motivated to take part in the hostilities by desire for private gain".
