Turn Hacker News into structured, B2B-ready data. Three modes in one actor, built on the official hn.algolia.com search API. No proxy, no login, no API key.
What it does
1. Who is hiring (jobs)
Parses the monthly "Ask HN: Who is hiring?" threads into clean, structured job records. Every top-level post becomes a row with:
company,role,locationremote/onsiteflagssalaryHint(when present)keywords(detected tech stack: Rust, Go, React, AWS, etc.)- full
text,author,createdAt, andhnUrl
Also supports "Who wants to be hired?" and "Freelancer? Seeking freelancer?" via postType. Filter by remoteOnly or keywordFilter (e.g. only Rust + Go posts).
2. Show HN launches
Tracks Show HN posts newest-first, with minPoints and optional searchQuery filters. Each row: title, url, points, numComments, author, createdAt, hnUrl. Ideal for launch tracking and competitive intel.
3. Keyword monitor
Watch any term across HN stories (and optionally comments). Returns title, url, points, text, author and more. Great for brand, competitor, or topic monitoring.
Delta / monitor mode
Set deltaMode: true and only items new since the previous run are returned. State is stored per Apify account. Pair it with a schedule and a webhook to get alerts on new hires, new launches, or new mentions. This is recurring usage, not a one-shot scrape.
Example inputs
Latest "Who is hiring", remote Rust roles only:
{"mode":"whoishiring","postType":"hiring","remoteOnly":true,"keywordFilter":["Rust","Go"]}
Show HN launches with 50+ points:
{"mode":"showhn","minPoints":50,"maxItems":100}
Monitor mentions of a competitor, only new ones each run:
{"mode":"keyword","searchQuery":"your-product","includeComments":true,"deltaMode":true}
Who uses this
- Recruiters and sourcers building a structured pipeline from Who is hiring
- Founders and product teams tracking Show HN launches in their space
- Sales and competitive intel monitoring keywords across HN
Founder / VC / Sales data suite
Part of a B2B data suite. Pair with our other actors for full coverage:
- Y Combinator Companies Scraper (startups by batch, industry, region)
- IndieHackers Product Scraper (products, revenue, founders)
- BetaList Startup Scraper (upcoming launches and makers)
Notes
- Source: official Hacker News Search API by Algolia (public).
- The API caps a single query at roughly 1000 results; a monthly hiring thread fits comfortably under that.
- Pricing is pay per result, so you only pay for records you receive.
