August 2013: Eyes Like Stars

  • Aug. 16th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
I am super late, but I am here. For August I have selected Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev.

I can't remember why I added this to my goodreads to-read list, but I can't put off choosing a book any longer, so I just skimmed the list and this one jumped out at me. Hopefully it ends up being a good one.

September's Book: Wicked

  • Aug. 19th, 2010 at 8:35 PM
First I have to apologize for my lack of activity here. I didn't really mean to, but I ended up taking a couple months off from lj. I'm ready to dive back in, or at least wade.

For September I have selected Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. Enjoy!

January's Book

  • Dec. 30th, 2009 at 7:19 PM
I have been horribly remiss in my duties here. I apologize. My goal was to be all caught up with reading, posting, and commenting by the end of the year. *looks shiftily at calendar* That’s not going to happen. New goal: the end of January.

Over the holidays my sister and I were talking about books we loved as kids. In that vein, I have selected Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede as January’s book. Most, if not all, of us have read it before, but I think it’s always worth another read.

August 09 ~ To Say Nothing Of The Dog

  • Sep. 26th, 2009 at 11:54 AM
I was going through my (weeks old) to-do list today and β€œbook club” was on it. I spent a couple minutes trying to figure out why it was on my list until I realized that I never posted any discussion points. *embarrassed* I wrote these up weeks ago while I was at work, but never posted them. Sorry. It makes me so glad that we are such a relaxed group.

Far too many people read books these days.Collapse )

August's Pick

  • Jul. 29th, 2009 at 9:46 PM
Sorry to have left this so late for you guys, but as the calendar still says July I'm not as late as I could be.

For August I have picked To Say Nothing Of The Dog by Connie Willis. It is a blend of science fiction, mystery, comedy, and Victorian novel so there's something for everyone to like (and probably something for everyone to dislike).

Happy reading!

April 2009 Devil In The White City

  • May. 1st, 2009 at 6:03 PM
The month of April has come to an end, so I present to you some discussion points for The Devil in the White City. Feel free to ramble about them, or not. I hope they make at least some kind of sense. I’m doped up on pain meds at the moment so my mind’s a little fuzzy but here we go.Collapse )

April's Book

  • Mar. 16th, 2009 at 10:21 AM
I’ve been kinda a deadbeat book club member. I’m like the girl that shows up at the meetings, drinks all the wine, eats all the brownies, and then leaves for a mysterious β€œappointment” before saying anything. Sorry about that. I’ll get better.

It’s mid-March so that means it’s time to reveal April’s book. I’ve selected The Devil In The While City by Erik Larson. I’ve been told for years that I should read it and now that I live in Chicago, it’s high time I did. It is story of β€œmurder, magic, and madness at the fair that changed the world.” Set in and around the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago it tells the true stories of the men who created the fair and the serial killer who used it to lure his victims. It is history, but it should be a good read. And watchers of Supernatural will recognize the serial killer as the ghost featured in No Exit.
