This page is highly confusing. Despite what its name and the grey box below suggest, it is neither:
  • the documentation page for the Template:SVG created with page;
  • nor specific to SVG. Despite this page's name and its heavy focus on SVG validity, several of the templates documented here can be used with non-SVG files.

It is also poorly written and related to multiple other complicated templates.

The Template:SVG created with page was never used and is now a mere redirect to another template (redirect which should surely be deleted). However, this subpage remains very used by multiple documentation pages.

This page is in fact both:

  1. a meta-template used to generate the documentation for tens of templates. A typical example of such templates is {{Created with Inkscape}}, which invokes this page to generate extensive documentation with a call of just 1 or 2 lines of code.
  2. the documentation page for that meta-template (#1).
The second green box corresponds to #2. Do not be confused by the first green box, which merely gives an idea of what the resulting documentation may look like, without documenting the template you are currently viewing. Chealer (talk) 20:13, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Ignore the following grey box, which is wrong.

This subpage contains documentation, categories, or other content that is not part of the template.
To view the template page itself, see Template:SVG created with.

Used to mark an image file
As its name indicates, this template was originally designed to identify the software (application, in most cases) used to create the file, but its role has since largely expanded. It now displays a horizontal (usually grey) box describing the file, potentially specifying its author, and controls its categorization.

This template may or may not display another box about SVG validity in some cases. When that validity box displays, it is first.

Usage

{{SVG created with ... |err= |topic= }}
