1. How were you first introduced to Live?
i can't remember exactly- i'm pretty sure it was my mom who introduced them to me.. the song i heard was 'lightning crashes'. early-mid '90s.
2. What is your favorite song? Favorite album?
i don't have just one favorite.. though some of them include 'where fishes go', 'tired of me', 't.b.d', etc. my favorite album.. is probably a tie between 'mental jewelry' and 'throwing copper'.. though 'distance to here' has a wealth of quality songs as well.
3. Do you have any stories to share regarding this band?
umm..
4. Any other thoughts you wish to voice?
they are an incredibly amazing band. β™₯
& i look forward to seeing them in concert one day!

Has anybody here ever been to Otter Creek? I had my music running at random and the song came up- it just struck me with this overwhelming urge to want to go there and see if that sign's still there.

It would be cool if it was real [03 Aug 2006|02:00am]

While skimmimg ebay in the ever impossible effort to find LIVE things I came across this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-LIVE-1992-North-American-Tour-T-shirt_W0QQitemZ320012441724QQihZ011QQcategoryZ15687QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I was excited at first but the more I think about it the less and less likley it seems to be real. I've been to enough shows that I would have seen it by now on somebody. And since when did they have shirts for MJ, or the money to make them? Not to mention that it's the Copper logo...

Too bad. It's a cool picture.

Anyone else disappointed? [26 May 2006|09:24am]

Is anyone else in this community disappointed with the direction that Live has taken over the past few years, most specifically "Birds of Pray" and now "Songs from Black Mountain"?

My favorite album has always been "Throwing Copper", which does seem to be the favorite of most Live fans. The songs had an edge and intensity to them. The same goes for Mental Jewelry and Secret Samadhi. The Distance to Here and V were each different in their own ways (more love and spirit in TDTH and almost an experiment with different styles in V).

Now the songs just seem too soft. Birds of Pray started showing this, with a couple of exceptions (Like I Do and Sanctity of Dreams stand out to me above the others). But almost everything else is "I love my kids/my life/god" or the occassional peaceful anti-war song ('What Are We Fighting For' and 'Home' have to be two of the most pacifist, borderline weak anti-war-yet-pro-soldier songs). So far, listening to Songs from Black Mountain, the only song the stands out for me is "Show". The saving grace to me is that the songs gain some intensity in their live performances (e.g. "Mystery" the other night on American Idol).

Live is still my favorite band and I can listen to most of their CDs on loop for hours. I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this way a bit. If anything, this could spur some fun arguments.

Hey everyone, Just droping in and saying hi...
I have found recently LJ to be rather a moronic experiance so say the least so i wanted to add some colour and falre of some kind and found this cool +live+ group....

I feel in love with the music when Throwing Copper first came out....It was getting close to my birthday and a good mate at the time had the cd and thought of me EVERY time they heard it, even though i never had at that time....anyway My parent were getting me a cd player (my first) for my bday and asked what cd i would like so, for some weird and strange reason my sister said i wanted throwing copper...I got it, loved it right away and never looked back....I went out the very next day and gout MJ and soon after I saw the live & unplugged concert on tv and was simply amazed by the tallent.

My favorite song for years has been Pillar of Davidson, I just cant get enough of it so imagine how i felt when i saw them play it in concert as part of the Distance to Here tour in AU...brisbane concert infact...

I also love turn my head and herophsycodreamer a LOT and ghost rocks also...but to be honest i love everythign they have done....there cover of John Lennons Imagine truly rocked in concert and it one of the best versions I have ever heard...

SO yeah I have seen them twice now,TDTH as mentioned and also for the Awake tour....which was also incredible.

I cant wait to buy the new cd next month and see them next time there in AU....

truly one amazing band I can never get enough of...got some good rare stuff also.

cheers and best wishes all!

I'm listening to some really old concert recordings right now, and they're just fantastic... As much as I love the boys they've got incrediably repetive at their shows lately. Not that I'd stop going whenever they're around, but man. I listened to heard Mother Earth is a Vicious Crowd, Ghost and Iris. You'd never find them playing anything like that now...

With the new allbum coming out, this has me concerned. Ed can't do more than an hour a night because of the strain on his voice. So what songs are going to get booted from the lineup? Will we stop hearing anything from MJ, or loose more TDTH stuff as Black Mountian songs enter the lineup? Are we just going to hear singles as time procedes (though that's for the most part what's happening now)? Anyone else have any thoughts?

Hi guys... [19 Nov 2005|12:23am]

Hi all,

I just wanted to add my input to this community, I have to say I am so happy that there are others out there that are as in love with Live as I am! Here are my answers to the 'newbie questions':

1. I honestly can't remember when I fell in love with them.... I think it was at a grade 7 school dance, maybe younger actually, I heard Lightning Crashes and loved them ever since.

2. For some this is the hardest question, but for me it is easy. I love Lightning crashes, it has such powerful meaning and has "been with me" through some of the hardest times of my life. I also would have to pick Throwing copper as my fave album, with secret samadhi close second.

3. I have yet to be able to get to a concert, but am DYING to do so when they hopefully tour after the new album comes out. I think some of the biggest reasons why I love live are the fact that you can play them over and over without getting tired of them, that their lyrics have such power and are so contemplative of life, and because they have related in with my life. I have Throwing copper with me (well, part of it on a tape) in 1999 when I went to Germany on my own at 15, and the song throwing copper was cut off at "lighting crashes, an old mother dies". My grandmother died while I was in Germany, and I couldn't go back for the funeral. I found that the song ending where it did was a prediction of her death, but also helped my mourn by bringing out my emotions. I love them for the way they can do that to me, when even those around me can't break down that emotional wall.

4. Live is amazing, and should get more air time along with they should tour more in Canada!
LIVE dreams [16 Oct 2005|05:39pm]

A post in another community I watch got me thinking about the weird LIVE drems I've had. There've been maybe a dozen I remember because I write them down, but by far my favorite was one I had years ago.

For some reason Ed and the boys, along with my classmates and me were in my gradeschool auditorium listening to the principal talk on about hell know what. When everyone was filing out they started talking about what a drag that was, although I didn't hear most of it because I filed off to lunch and looking forward to my sandwich. But the idiot sitting across the table from me spilled strawberries on it and I was just yelling at them when someone calls out to me from the end of the table- it's Ed, and he's laughing. "Try putting some syrup on it" he says, "Syrup makes all food taste better." I wish I knew what happened after that but my mother woke me up and it ended.

Weird, but I thought someone might find it amusing. And maybe someone has an idea where the hell syrup plays into this. Have there been any statements about syrup and it's a great conspiracy, or are my dreams just weird.

The dream playlist [19 Sep 2005|11:12pm]

After wandering through a website with the playlists for a bunch of Live concerts throughout their career I started to notice better something I already knew on my own- as wonderful as the boys are in concert they have a tendancy to just play the same small number of songs every time.

What would you guys consider a perfect playlist? Whyso? feel free to critique mine.

Anybody else have The Beauty of Grey EP? There's a version of Good Pain on there that caught my attention lately, it's got a rawness to it that's almost stunning. If you haven't heard it, you should give it a listen.

x-posted to fans_of_live in hope that someone will read it. I've gathered this community's dead.

Hey all,

If you wanna delete this, I have no probs with it, but I thought it might attract a little interest with the Australian Live fans, perhaps even fans the world over (which would be awesome).

During the Birds of Pray tour, two bands supported our beloved Live.
They were Train (whom we are probably all familiar with),
and Epicure.

In brief, Epicure are 5 boys from Ballarat (which is in Victoria, Australia).
I would class them as slow rock, I suppose.
They are very talented musicians.
They write beautiful music.
Their most recent album, The Goodbye Girl is one that I would strongly suggest anyone go out and buy. It's brilliant.
There is another album in the works (almost finished the recording process, WOO!).

If you haven't heard them, you can download samples of their songs at their website, here.

And if anyone's interested -

If you get the chance, please give these guys a shot. They are beyond worth it.

Thanks for reading, guys.
You all rock. \m/

Hey all, new here.

1. How were you first introduced to Live?

My brother owned 'The Distance To Here'. I liked the sound of it through his walls so when he got sick of it (as 13 year olds tend to) I bought it off him for $2, and fell in love.

2. What is your favorite song? Favorite album?

I think Distance is my favourite album, simply because I was a Live virgin beforehand. My all time favourite song.... hmm... difficult. Perhaps 'Dance With You'.

3. Do you have any stories to share regarding this band?

Not really. Wish I did.

4. Any other thoughts you wish to voice?

Live inspire me beyond words, often, which is odd, because I am a writer, a person for whom words are the ultimate expression. One of the things I have always loved about their work is how it seems to encompass everything and nothing at the same time.

Hi! Obviously I'm a big Live fan. I got to see them in concert some years ago, I was still in college then - that was when "Lightening Crashes" was big on the radio. I guess my favorite song by them is "All Over You", but I pretty much like them all. Usually when I go on a long car trip, I mainly listen to their CDs over and over, lol. They make the time go by fast!

Howdy, my name is Charli, and I'm from South East England.

1. How were you first introduced to Live? My Dad used to play them in the car all the time when I was five, so they sorta grew on me.
2. What is your favorite song? Favorite album? I like All Over You, but Run To The Water beats it to the top spot. I like Throwing Copper the best so far, though I only have to Live albums (aka, albums pinched from my Dad's CD collection).
3. Do you have any stories to share regarding this band? Well, seeing how my Dad played them noon-stop when I was young, I look back now and think 'A five year old girl dressed up like she's from 'The Little House On The Prarie' must look pretty funny screaming 'Shit Towne' at the top of her lungs'
4. Any other thoughts you wish to voice? None that I can think of.
