Definitive Edition for Divinity: Original Sin 2 was released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 31, 2018. This edition of the game boasts better graphics, better gameplay balance, as well as improved combat tuning. This upgrade of the 2017 game has been made available on the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 15, 2025.
The Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition was announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 shortly after Larian Studios announced the new Divinity title. The definitive edition comes in 2 other editions available, which are the Divine and Eternal Edition. Divine Edition will include the definitive edition of Divinity: Original Sin 2, a digital map of Reaper's Coast, the digital soundtrack, digital art & Lore Books, and the Digital Art Pack. Eternal Edition comes with those aforementioned as well as Digital Soundtrack of the first game, Art packs from the first game, prequel story, Beyond Divinity Novella, Milestone Movies from the second game, Design Documents from the first and second Divinity games, and 3 other games from the Divinity series: Divine Divinity, Divinity 2: Developer's Cut, and Beyond Divinity.
Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition shows the same classic game that players all know and love, with a few balance tweaks to the gameplay. combat tunes, and of course, modern graphics. This edition of the game also features a smaller file size compared to the classic release. Those who wish to pick up a copy on Steam will receive both the Classic as well as the Definitive versions of the game. There are two editions of the game for players to pick up, which are the Divine and Eternal editions, each with additional content for players to enjoy.
Players may still choose from 6 unique origin characters that have their own backgrounds and quests. Choose from Human, Lizard, Elf, Dwarf, or Undead, each of which will have its own consequences as they're chosen by players. Create your own hero, and discover what story you'll be facing on your journey. Players may play however they want.
Players may do almost everything; they may explore the large setting of the game, speak with the NPCs, and interact with the world. They can check out all the unique locations featured in the game, now in graphic quality that fits modern systems. Players can kill any NPC without the risk of their progress coming to a halt. Every animal and even ghosts are capable of being spoken to in-game.
Placement of your character matters in the game, such as using the high ground will have an advantage over your enemies. Over 200 skills in 12 different skill schools for players to master. They mentioned something called AI 2.0 that they claim is their most devious invention to date.
Players may play with up to 3 of their friends in online or local split-screen cooperative play, complete with full controller support. Giving players the freedom to play with their friends on either a single or multiple devices.
Players will be able to craft their own stories with the Game Master Mode, which means players on PC will have access to the Steam Workshop. Players may create and try out custom-made stories made by other players, install modifications to the game that add to the player's definition of immersion, and so many more possibilities.
The Definitive version of the game now allows 4K resolution for players to enjoy and be fully immersed in the world. The definitive edition of the game will, of course, include better graphics for the players' viewing pleasure.
