Environmental Effects in Divinity Original Sin 2 (DOS 2) are powerful area-based effects that can influence combat by providing buffs, debuffs, damage, or control options for both allies and enemies. These effects are essentially the cloud and surface versions of status effects, impacting the battlefield in unique ways. They can be created by combining elements, spells, or environmental interactions, making them an essential part of combat strategy. For effects that directly target a character through skills or abilities, please refer to their specific pages for more details. Understanding Environmental Effects is key to mastering the game's dynamic combat system.
Environmental effects are interactive elements that play a major role in shaping the game's combat and exploration. These effects stem from natural or magical elements, such as fire, water, poison, and electricity, which interact with the environment and characters in various impactful ways. For example, fire can spread across oil surfaces to create explosive hazards, water can conduct electricity to shock enemies, and poison can be ignited to deal additional damage. These interactions add layers of strategy, allowing players to use the environment to their advantage or turning the tide of battle in creative ways.

Yes, characters in Divinity: Original Sin 2 can manipulate environmental effects through various abilities and skills, providing players with a wealth of strategic options during combat. For example, casting a rain spell can not only extinguish fires but also create water puddles, setting the stage for electric attacks or dousing poison clouds. Fire-based skills, such as Fireball or Flame Strike, can be used to set areas ablaze, igniting oil spills or creating lasting hazards for enemies.
Absolutely! Environmental effects play a significant role in battles, and players can leverage them to gain the upper hand. For instance, setting a fire near enemies not only deals direct damage but can also spread across flammable terrain, causing chaos among groups of foes. Electrifying a pool of water can create an area-wide shock that hits multiple targets simultaneously, making it a highly effective tactic against clustered enemies. Poison clouds can be used to disrupt opponents by inflicting status effects, softening them up before engaging in direct combat.
Yes, environmental effects can impact enemies just as they affect your party, and they can be used to weaken, damage, or control foes. Enemies are often vulnerable to specific elements, and exploiting these weaknesses can turn the tide of battle in your favor. For instance, fire can deal substantial damage over time, while water can be electrified to shock enemies, especially those standing in puddles or near water sources. Poison clouds can gradually drain an enemy's health and reduce their effectiveness in combat.

-1Will toxic tannins as a status effect hurt you

-1If you get yoru fire resistance to or over 100%, lava actually massively heals you. You heal like 1600 health per tic

-1Blood surfaces most certainly do not "Explode if combined with Fire elements."

-1I am playing DOS2:DE right now, and while the tooltip for holding your cursor over blessed fire still says that it applies heal, the actual buff does not. I appears to have been changed. This page should be updated accordingly.

Can you have more than more damage status? Bleeding and Burning? Acid and Poison? All four?

-1Does a surface effect created by an ally affect me? Example: an NPC ally creates a fire surface that burns a foe. I, however just attacked the foe beforehand and am standing beside it. I am in the burn surface now. Do I also take damage?

-1Fire makes STEAM clouds when extinguished, not SMOKE clouds. 2 very different things.
You get SMOKE clouds when the Fire times out.

-1Cursed ice freezes you despite your magic armor...

-1I like the idea of environmental effect however in the current state of the game the effects are too inconsistent: Ex. Sometimes you can hit a water surface with lightning several times in a row, without anything happening. When it (finally) creates a static effects it might not even last more than one milisec. At other times a static surface seems to persist several rounds before disappearing

-1Fire can be made into blessed fire providing immunity to fire and healing

-1There is also Cursed Poison. Which applies acid and poison status and is blocked by magic armor.

-1There are also Fire Clouds (left by certain skills only), and Cursed Water (exactly like cursed blood, dropped by fish-based-voidlings when hit).
Also it's unclear to me what turns fire into necrofire. It seems like casting any necro-spell or having any necro-summon touch the fire can be enough to convert it, but is inconsistent when I try to recreate it.
