La forêt amazonienne, également connue en anglais comme l'Amazonie ou la jungle amazonienne, est une forêt brune humide qui couvre la majeure partie du bassin amazonien d'Amérique du Sud. Ce bassin englobe 7 000 000 kilomètres carrés, dont 5 500 000 kilomètres carrés sont couverts par la forêt tropicale. Cette région comprend un territoire appartenant à neuf pays. La majorité de la forêt est contenue au Brésil, avec 60% de la forêt tropicale, suivie par le Pérou avec 13%, la Colombie avec 10% et avec des quantités mineures au Venezuela, en Équateur, en Bolivie, en Guyane, au Suriname et en Guyane. The Amazon rainforest, also known in English as Amazonia or the Amazon Jungle, is a moist broadleaf forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin of South America. States or departments in four nations contain "Amazonas" in their names. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests, and comprises the largest and most biodiverse tract of tropical rainforest in the world, with an estimated 390 billion individual trees divided into 16,000 species.
