Constantine XI Dragaš Palaiologos, latinisé comme Paléologue fut le dernier empereur byzantin régnant, qui régnait en tant que membre de la dynastie Palaiologos de 1449 à sa mort en bataille à l'automne de Constantinople. À la suite de sa mort, il est devenu une figure légendaire du folklore grec comme «l'empereur de marbre» qui réveillerait et récupérerait l'Empire et Constantinople des Ottomans. Sa mort a marqué la fin de l'Empire romain, qui a continué dans l'Est pendant 977 ans après la chute de l'Empire romain de l'Ouest. Constantine XI Dragaš Palaiologos, Latinized as Palaeologus was the last reigning Byzantine Emperor, reigning as a member of the Palaiologos dynasty from 1449 to his death in battle at the fall of Constantinople. Following his death, he became a legendary figure in Greek folklore as the "Marble Emperor" who would awaken and recover the Empire and Constantinople from the Ottomans. His death marked the end of the Roman Empire, which had continued in the East for 977 years after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
