Le terme «écocide» désigne tout dommage ou destruction considérable du paysage naturel et la perturbation ou la perte d'un écosystème d'un territoire donné à tel point que la survie des habitants de ce territoire est menacée. L'écocide peut être irréversible lorsqu'un écosystème souffre au-delà de l'auto-guérison. Il est généralement associé à des dommages causés par un agent vivant, directement ou indirectement. Un organisme pourrait infliger directement un écocide en tuant suffisamment d'espèces dans un écosystème pour perturber sa structure et sa fonction. L'écocide peut également résulter d'une pollution telle que l'introduction de concentrations élevées de pesticides qui détruisent largement la flore locale. Une définition plus faible de l'écocide est celle dans laquelle un organisme détruit les écosystèmes autres que le sien ... Par exemple, on pourrait dire qu'au cours de l'ère précambrienne, les algues bleu-vert ont engagé un écocide sur l'écologie de la réduction de la chimie, en libérant L'oxygène dans l'environnement. Les organismes auxquels l'oxygène était un poison sont morts, tandis que les algues et autres organismes ont adapté et créé une nouvelle écologie à base d'oxydation chimique. The term ecocide refers to any extensive damage or destruction of the natural landscape and disruption or loss of ecosystem of a given territory to such an extent that the survival of the inhabitants of that territory is endangered. Ecocide can be irreversible when an ecosystem suffers beyond self healing. It is generally associated with damage caused by a living agent whether directly or indirectly. An organism might inflict ecocide directly by killing enough species in an ecosystem to disrupt its structure and function. Ecocide can also result from pollution such as the introduction of high concentrations of pesticides which destroy the local flora extensively. A weaker definition of ecocide is that in which an organism destroys ecosystems other than its own.. For example, it could be said that during the Precambrian era, blue-green algae committed ecocide upon the prevailing reducing-chemistry-based ecology, by releasing oxygen into the environment. Organisms to which oxygen was a poison died off, while the algae and other organisms adapted and created a new oxidation-chemistry-based ecology.
