Une époque est une période de temps marquée par un caractère distinctif, des événements, des changements sur terre, etc. Lorsqu'il est utilisé dans la science, par exemple la géologie, une époque représente une période de temps clairement définie de longueur arbitraire mais bien définie, comme par exemple L'ère mésozoïque de 252 Ma-66 Ma, délimitée par un événement de départ et un événement final. Lorsqu'ils sont utilisés dans l'histoire sociale, les époques peuvent, par exemple, désigner une période de règne de monarque. Dans un langage familier, les époques désignent de plus longues périodes, avant et après lesquelles les pratiques ou les modes changent considérablement. Quand l'époque est étendue à un système de calendrier, elle est connue comme une époque de calendrier. En culture sanskrite ou indienne, les époques sont connues sous le nom de Yugas. An era is a period of time marked by distinctive character, events, changes on earth, etc. When used in science, for example geology, an era denotes a clearly defined period of time of arbitrary but well-defined length, such as for example the Mesozoic Era from 252 Ma–66 Ma, delimited by a start event and an end event. When used in social history, eras may for example denote a period of some monarch's reign. In colloquial language, eras denote longer spans of time, before and after which the practices or fashions change to a significant degree. When era is extended to a calendar system, it is known as a calendar era. In Sanskrit or Indian culture eras are known as Yugas.
