Al-Hejaz, également, Hijaz est une région à l'ouest de l'Arabie saoudite actuelle. Il est bordé à l'ouest par la mer Rouge, au nord par la Jordanie, à l'est par Nejd et au sud par Asir. Sa ville principale est Jeddah, mais elle est sans doute mieux connue pour les villes saintes islamiques de la Mecque et de la Médina. En tant que site des lieux sacrés de l'islam, l'Hejaz a une signification dans le paysage historique et politique arabe et islamique. Hejaz is the most cosmopolitan part of the Arabian Peninsula. 35% of Saudis live in Hejaz. Hejazi Arabic dialect is closely related to Egyptian Arabic. Saudi Hejazis are of ethnically diverse roots. People of Hejaz have the most strongly articulated identity of any regional grouping in Saudi Arabia. Their place of origin alienates them from the Saudi state, which invokes different narratives of the history of the Arabian Peninsula.
