Le Coran est le texte religieux central de l'islam, que les musulmans croient être une révélation de Dieu. Il est largement considéré comme la plus belle littérature en langue arabe. Les musulmans considèrent que le Coran est le seul livre protégé par Dieu contre la distorsion ou la corruption. Cependant, certaines variations textuelles importantes et les lacunes dans le script arabe signifient que la relation entre le texte du Coran d'aujourd'hui et un texte original n'est pas claire. Les chapitres coraniques s'appellent suras et les vers sont appelés ayahs. Les musulmans croient que le Coran a été verbalement révélé de Dieu à Muhammad par l'intermédiaire de l'ange Gabriel, progressivement sur une période d'environ 23 ans, à partir du 22 décembre 609 CE, quand Muhammad avait 40 ans et se terminait en 632 CE, l'année de sa mort. Peu de temps après la mort de Muhammad, le Coran a été recueilli par ses compagnons en utilisant des matériaux coraniques écrits et tout ce qui avait été mémorisé du Coran. Les musulmans considèrent le Coran comme le miracle le plus important de Muhammad, la preuve de sa prophétie et l'aboutissement d'une série de messages divins qui ont commencé avec les messages révélés à Adam et qui ont pris fin avec Muhammad. Quranic chapters are called suras and verses are called ayahs. Muslims believe that the Quran was verbally revealed from God to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel, gradually over a period of approximately 23 years, beginning on 22 December 609 CE, when Muhammad was 40, and concluding in 632 CE, the year of his death. Shortly after Muhammad's death, the Quran was collected by his companions using written Quranic materials and everything that had been memorized of the Quran. Muslims regard the Quran as the most important miracle of Muhammad, the proof of his prophethood and the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with the messages revealed to Adam and ended with Muhammad.
