Patna / pʌtnə / (La prononciation Hindi (aide · info)) est la capitale et la plus grande ville de l'état de Bihar en Inde. Patna sert également de siège de la Haute Cour de Patna. La deuxième plus grande ville de l'est de l'Inde, avait une population estimée à 1 683 200 en 2011, ce qui en fait la 19e ville la plus grande d'Inde. L'agglomération urbaine est le 18ème plus grand en Inde avec plus de 2 millions de personnes. L'un des plus anciens endroits habités en permanence dans le monde. Patna a été fondée en 490 avant JC par le roi de Magadha. It's Urban-agglomeration is 18th largest in India with over 2 million people. One of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. Patna was founded in 490 BCE by the king of Magadha. Ancient Patna, known as Pataliputra, was the capital of the Magadha Empire under the Haryanka, Nanda, Mauryan, Sunga, Gupta and Pala. Pataliputra was a seat of learning and fine arts. Its population during the Maurya period (around 300 BCE) was about 400,000. The modern city of Patna is situated on the southern bank of the Ganges. The city also straddles the rivers Sone, Gandak and Punpun. The city is approximately 35 km long and 16 km to 18 km wide. In June 2009, the World Bank ranked Patna second in India (after Delhi) for ease of starting a business. As of 2010-2011, Patna had the highest per capita gross district domestic product in Bihar, at 57,843.
