La compassion est le sentiment d'empathie pour les autres. La compassion est l'émotion que nous ressentons en réponse à la souffrance des autres qui motive le désir d'aider. L'étymologie de la «compassion» est le latin, ce qui signifie «co-souffrance». Plus impliqué que l'empathie simple, la compassion entraîne généralement un désir actif d'alléger la souffrance d'autrui. La compassion est souvent, mais pas inévitablement, le composant clé dans ce qui se manifeste dans le contexte social comme altruisme. In ethical terms, the expressions down the ages of the so-called Golden Rule often embodies by implication the principle of compassion: Do to others what you would have them do to you. The English noun compassion, meaning to love together with, comes from Latin.
