Un toposcope ou un topographe est un marqueur érigé sur des collines ou des endroits élevés qui indique la direction, et généralement la distance, aux caractéristiques remarquables du paysage qui peuvent être vues à partir de ce point. Ils sont souvent placés dans des parcs publics, des parcs nationaux, des terrains de maisons majestueuses ou des lieux historiques tels que les champs de bataille. Les toposcopes sont souvent inscrits et dédiés à des personnes ou à des événements particuliers. Ils montrent généralement les points de la boussole, ou du moins du Nord. Toposcopes are often inscribed, and dedicated to particular people or events. They usually show the points of the compass, or at least North. They will have radiating lines indicating the direction to various landmarks, together with the distance and often a pictorial representation of the landmark.
