En géométrie, un torus est une surface de révolution générée par rotation d'un cercle en espace tridimensionnel autour d'un axe coplanaire avec le cercle. Si l'axe de révolution ne touche pas le cercle, la surface a une forme d'anneau et s'appelle un torus d'anneau ou simplement un tore si la forme de l'anneau est implicite. Lorsque l'axe est tangent au cercle, la surface résultante s'appelle un tore de corne; Lorsque l'axe est une corde du cercle, on l'appelle un tore de broche. Un cas dégénéré est lorsque l'axe est un diamètre du cercle, qui génère simplement une 2-sphère. Le ring torus délimite un solide connu sous le nom de toroïde. Real-world examples of toroidal objects include doughnuts, vadais, inner tubes, bagels, many lifebuoys, O-rings and vortex rings. In topology, a ring torus is homeomorphic to the Cartesian product of two circles: S1 × S1, and the latter is taken to be the definition in that context. It is a compact 2-manifold of genus 1.
