La fonction d'un intercepteur est de retenir un avion ennemi à l'approche de la cible. Par conséquent, ils doivent être de décollage rapide et capables de développer des vitesses élevées à des angles proches de 90 degrés à la hausse. En raison de ces caractéristiques, leur autonomie est sacrifiée et, par conséquent, les plans d'interception sont généralement de courte portée. A função de um avião de intercepção é deter uma aeronave inimiga quando se aproxima do objetivo. Portanto, devem ser de decolagem rápida e capazes de desenvolver altas velocidades em ângulos próximos de 90 graus na ascensão. Em virtude destas características a sua autonomia é sacrificada e, portanto, os aviões de intercepção dispõem, em geral, de curto alcance.
